What are the omens associated with bats

What are the omens associated with bats ?

Folklore in Canada attributes that if a bat lights (lands) in a

house, a man in the family will die, however, if it flies around a

woman’s death is foretold. Some cultures believe that death can be

avoided by killing the bat and therefore death will seek out the

bat and not the person or persons in the household. In some

cultures the bat does not have to actually enter the house but

merely fly by, near, or around it.

Bats in buildings have also been seen as omens of lesser evils

than death. Various myths relate that bats in houses may bring bad

luck, or portend that someone in the house will go insane, become

blind, be missing the next day, that a letter with bad news will

arrive, or that the people in the house will move. Zuni Indian

myths, along with lore from North Carolina, Arkansas, and Illinois,

all corroborate that bats flying around a chimney, or attempting to

enter a building, are a sure sign of rain.

While of less consequence than death, woe be it to the bridal

couple who has the misfortune to marry in a church with bats in the

belfry. A great deal of very bad luck is predicted if a bat flies

into the church during a wedding ceremony.

While European and North American folklore about bats in

buildings generally views bats as portents of misfortune or evil,

some benign lore also exists perceiving them as good omens. For

example, if a bat lives in a theater, and flies over the stage

during rehearsal, the play is guaranteed success.

There are so many different omens related to bats, some good,

most bad, ranging from death, blindness, insanity, or just plain

bad luck. Either way, most bats are harmless and should be treated

with respect like any other creature of nature.

Why Is a Cricket a Sign of Good Luck?

In ancient China, a cricket was a sign of luck because it indicated that a family would be prosperous. This belief may be connected to the influx of crickets into fields every spring, which farmers used as an indicator that it was time to plant their crops. Since they earned their living by what they grew and sold, a good crop meant a good income.

The ancient Chinese also highly regarded the chirping of crickets and kept crickets in cages in order to be able to hear the sound in their homes. The sport of cricket fighting evolved from the Chinese fascination with crickets, and the tradition has been reintroduced into Chinese culture.

The cricket is also considered a sign of good luck in some African cultures. Asians and Europeans believe that killing a cricket brings bad luck. The cricket is not a sign of luck in all cultures, however. In one region of Brazil, the sound of a cricket chirping is an indicator of death. In another part of Brazil, it means that a baby is on the way. In Sao Paulo the color of the cricket is significant. Black means impending illness, gray means money is on the way and green means hope.

Spiritually speaking, is it a bad omen if a bat flies into your house?

Living in the country as I do, many a bat has flown into my home and onto the porch as I’ve sat out in the evenings. They’re wonderful little animals which bring no bad luck and who won’t harm you at all. Simply make sure there’s an open window or door for him to fly out of, then turn on every light except for the lights in the room which has his escape route. He’ll go into the dark room and then find his way out.

He’s not going to harm you, and he probably isn’t rabid. If he should happen to land on a wall, you can remove him carefully with gloved hands. I know you’re a kind person so I can’t imagine you killing him. I do have to say that bats in the US are experiencing a die-off, and as we need the little critters to control the mosquito population, it’s best that little bat be allowed to live.

I have to share the following bat stories. My apologies if it gets lengthy.

A few years ago, perhaps 5 or 6, I had just gone to bed when I head a strange noise coming from the bathroom. I listened for a few moments to what sounded like squeaking and clicking (thinking all the while, «What the hell IS that?») and then I determined that it was a bat.

I went into the bathroom, and there sat my three cats on a circle around a small bat which had landed on the bathroom floor. The poor thing was unable to straighten up or walk on the slippery tile, so it squeaked, flapped, and clicked as it struggled. My first thought was that the cats had injured it, and I would have to kill the bat.

When I had entered the bathroom all the cats looked up at me. Fox seemed to say, «Whatever this is, I didn’t do it.» Sam appeared to be in awe, her eyes wide and wondering. Both just sat, observing. Monica, the little runt with a warrior spirit, repeatedly approached the bat and touched it lightly. At this, she would jump back and the other cats would give a little jerk. This was a most curious experience for them.

Determining that the bat wasn’t injured — and that he was simply unable to maneuver his little body on the bathroom floor — I used a small bath towel to gently scoop him up and carry him onto the porch. When the towel was opened he flew away, unharmed. 🙂

On another night, my middle son was deeply engrossed in a game on X-BOX Live. I popped into his room to ask if he would like something to eat when I was met with my son glued to the television, mashing buttons like a madman as a bat flew in circles around his head. He was totally unaware.

Cricket Superstitions

Cricket Superstitions – Good Luck or Bad Luck, Your Choice

Cricket Luck – in most instances crickets are considered good luck. They are a creature that will bring good luck to the person that sees them. Cricket luck is the friendly chirping sound of many crickets sounding like a fine tuned orchestra on a summer’s night.

That’s an exaggeration, but in general, cricket chirping is a reminder of cheerfulness. Over the ages that cricket chirping sound has been associated with a comfortable domestic life.

It’s only the male cricket that chirps. The chirp is produced by the friction of its wing covers rubbing together. In literature the chirping is often associated with its animated, lively, and gay quality.

Cricket Luck — Good Luck or Bad Luck

Shakespeare himself alluded many times about the fact that crickets in the house were a sign of mirth and plenty. Who wouldn’t want that, mirth being gaiety or jollity?

There were those people who believed that if a cricket departs from a hearth where it has been heard chirping for a long time, that its departure signals misfortune. In such a case its regarded as a direct calamity by the family.

Possibly that same feeling is present today for those persons still believing in this old superstition.

There are a lot of cricket luck superstitions and here are a few:

  • A strange cricket in the house is an unfailing sign of death
  • To kill a cricket on Sunday is especially unlucky
  • If crickets sing louder than usual, expect rain
  • To see a white cricket denotes an absent love will return
  • Kill a crickets mate and it will eat holes in your clothes, especially stockings
  • Crickets are enchanted beings hundreds of years old
  • Never kill a cricket that’s in your house, lest a member of your family will meet the same fate

Crickets and similar insects make popular charms or lucky pieces. Some superstitious singers and musicians believed that to be near or in contact with a musical cricket (not all are musical) might inspire them in their own professional work. Also that common association with the chirping cricket helps keep them happy and cheerful.

“Far from all resort of mirth, / Save the cricket on the hearth!”

An ordinary cricket at the foot of the fireplace may be considered a sign of good fortune. On the other hand, a cricket in the ground, the mole cricket, is a serious farm pest. That cricket is a sign of bad cricket luck for a farmer.

It will uproot seedlings and menaces the newly planted field or garden.

So if you want to play it safe when you see a cricket chirping in your house, think twice what you are going to do. Before you decide to do deadly harm to that little creature or even shoo it out the door; it could just be your good luck you are tampering with.

Is it good luck or bad when a cricket gets into your house?

I seem to remember my grandmother saying something about a superstition about crickets coming into the house.

A cricket in the house is good luck. I believe this superstition has a basis in Chinese folklore. However, Charles Dickens wrote the story, A Cricket on the Hearth.

Crickets can be d**n annoying when you are trying to sleep.

A cricket does not actually chirp, they rub their legs together to make the sound. The colder it is outside the slower they chirp.

Bad Luck for the poor cricket!

I don’t think them getting into the house is good or bad luck. it’s killing them that is supposed to be bad luck.

It is considered good luck if wasps make a nest near your home.

I’m not sure how much I believe in luck at all. but these are the things I’ve heard other people say.

Animal, Insect, and Bird Omens and Their Meanings

Nell has been an online writer for over eight years and is fascinated by the paranormal, including omens, TimeSlips, and the supernatural.

Fate, Omens, and superstition are very closely related. In the past, we didn’t have the knowledge that we have today. Science was a thing of the future. Medical health was, quite literally, a case of trial and error.

Not knowing that germs, viruses, and diseases originated with bacteria caused the population to be completely bewildered at why they were suddenly struck down by these unknown illnesses. Many superstitions were born as a result.

So, why are we so superstitious? There are many footballers who will only wear the same shirt (even if it’s dirty) to make sure that they win their game. Others touch the mantel above the tunnel entrance and then kiss a crucifix that they are wearing. Of course, there are many people who will just laugh at such silly superstitions. However, I bet they still won’t walk underneath a ladder!

Whether you call it superstition, fate, God’s will, or just habit, there are many omens and signs out there that people around the world still believe in.

Animal Omens

Human nature is such that we have always found ways to try and bring good luck to ourselves and those around us. Many of the Omens below could possibly have started out as coincidences, such as a plague of locusts descending on a village, a spider bite, or even a flock of birds falling from the sky. These stories would have been passed down through the family and incorporated into the myths and legends of the time. It’s hard to know where these animal omens originated, but many people believe them to this day.

  • Cats: A black cat may be good luck or bad. Back in the old days, the cat’s meaning was said to depend on whether you had done bad deeds or good deeds before you saw it. To kill a cat was meant to signify a coming disaster. If one leaves your home, then disaster will strike. Maybe this was because cats have a sixth sense and know when something bad is going to happen to the house.

  • Mice: Seeing a white or brown mouse is good luck, especially in your love life. A grey one, however, is said to bring bad luck.
  • Sheep: A flock of sheep is really good luck.
  • Rats: Rats are good omens, if white, but bad omens if they are black.
  • Pigs: Pigs are bad omens, especially if you meet one immediately after getting married.
  • Squirrels: Squirrels signify that happiness will be found soon.

What Birds Foretell

Even today, in this age of science and technology, we still have the same subconscious fears that make us superstitious. Maybe one day we will be confident enough in our world to set aside these signs and omens, but I doubt it. Humans are symbolic creatures, and I believe we need these signs to hang onto. It’s part of our psyche and, let’s face it, it makes the world an interesting place! Humans and birds have had a special relationship for thousands of years. These omens demonstrate just how important birds were to people in the past.

  • Kingfishers: Kingfishers signify that a big scandal threatens your happiness.

Insects and Prophesy

To counteract the bad, we had to find a way to make good luck happen; thus, omens were born. The strange thing was that, even though it was through pure instinct, many people did actually «hit the nail on the head,» so to speak. Certain plants were prayed over and picked under a full moon. These plants’ medicines were actually more potent at that hour. These plants were very helpful to our species. Also important were the insects that pollinated these plants. There are many omens regarding them as well.

8 Omens About Insects

  • Ants: An ant nest near your home is good luck. However, to be bitten by one means arguments and quarrels will soon come.
  • Bees: If they are inside your house, then bees are a sign of good luck.
  • Cockroaches: If seen in a strange place, then their presence foretells the death of a friend.
  • Crickets: Crickets are very good luck. However, if they leave the house or garden, then bad luck will follow.
  • Grasshoppers: Grasshoppers are a sign of good luck. If you see one, then very good news will follow.
  • Ladybird/bugs: These are thought to be good omens.
  • Spiders: Spiders are bad luck all around. If seen in the morning, then grief will come. If seen in the afternoon, then anxiety will follow. If seen in the evening, then you will have bad luck with money. Never kill one, as this brings bad luck. To see a spider spinning its web signifies that people are plotting against you. If it’s found on your body, then it’s good luck.
  • Wasps: Wasps foretell a danger caused by jealousy.

What Is an Oracle?

Definition: A priest or priestess who acts as a medium, whom prophecy or advice was sought from the God or Gods. Also, a place at which such advice or prophecy was sought thereafter.

Back in the day, many tribes of people would choose a particular person, usually a woman, to be their oracle. In other words, the oracle could either be a person or a place. Either way, oracles existed for people to try to understand what was happening to them.

What Did Oracles Do?

  • Most Oracles were very clever people. They would use the world around them to understand Signs and portents.
  • For example, they would understand such things as weather patterns, therefore giving advice on whether it was safe to travel at a certain time, or would the gods be bringing down torrential rain.

Most people would think the information came from the gods, when really it was a case of trial and error, luck, and reactions within the surrounding world.

How People Defined a Good vs. a Bad Omen

Human nature being what it is, people realised that there must be a reason for their bad luck, but couldn’t find a way to express it. So, religion and fate took the brunt of the blame.

There is hardly anything that moves, flies, or crawls that has not, at one time or another, served as a sign of a good or bad omen. Throughout time, human behavior has had a superstition stamped on it. For example, people often place their beds at a certain angle to attract good luck.

For riches to come to the family, the bed should be placed facing east. For a long life, south, and so on. Even stranger, money was supposed to be coming your way if you sneezed to the right!

If you picked up a pin then good luck would come to you. And if you met the same person twice in one day on your travels then you would get the same good luck. How that one works I have no idea, but you get the point.

These could be anything from cloud patterns, a breeze blowing a certain way or even birds flying low in the sky. Sometimes the signs would, in fact, show something that today we would see as real science at work.

For example, if we see flocks of birds falling from the sky, we would realise that that particular flock could possibly have bird flu. Or, as in a recent case of doves dying in Italy last year which had flown too high and frozen to death due to hypoxia.

In the past, the locals would see this event as a sign of bad luck, but not really know why or what was going to happen. We all know the story of Pompeii, where the local populace believed that the volcano was a warning from the gods. Of course, these days we all realise that it is a natural occurrence.

To live with so much superstition must have been hard. Each step that was taken must have been like walking blindfolded through a dark room with holes in the ground. But we have to realise that the signs, oracles, and omens were also a comfort to the people. Knowing that the gods were keeping an eye on them was a way to keep them grounded and safe at a time when the world around them was a strange and terrifying place.

A dead bird shows a new beginning, and out with the old.

Are there any omens about preying mantis’?

Yes! Evidently, it means that you can reach a state of calm by meditation.

I saw a dead rat fall from the sky in the morning at around 07:00 hours. I also spotted a few eagles flying 15-20 feet above me. What could this signify?

I cleaned my car on the third of October. The next morning, it was covered in thousands of flies. Now, I hear crows, and there is an owl in my tree, a screeching owl. It sounds like a cat in pain. What does all this mean?

I would imagine there was some sort of weather or birth condition that caused this to happen with the flies. Maybe it was the time of year for them to appear, but something happened. To be honest, I am not sure.

I came back from a holiday about a week ago and discovered there was a wasps nest in a wall cavity right outside my bedroom window. Pest control came and put something in the nest, and all the wasps died. Since then more and more wasps have been getting in my room, and we can’t tell from where. We have silicone and tape over any holes, and they keep getting in, and I have to sleep elsewhere. What does this mean? Should I be worried?

I think the answer is that it’s not to do with animal omens. This is more a job for an expert in wasp removals.

Every morning, a bee flies in my car window and lands on my left shoulder. Just wondering if that has a meaning?

Every morning? Now that is interesting! It actually means that you have met your soul mate! The bee is just confirming it for you!

On January 1st, I found a dead rat between my two pillows. I sometimes sleep on two pillows. It’s not a white one, because here in the Philippines we rarely have them. Does it mean something?

A dead rat shows that something is coming to an end. You need to re-evaluate your life and decide who or what needs to go.

I saw a blue bird catch a grasshopper in its mouth and eat it. What does that mean?

I would imagine its because the bird eats grasshoppers.

While outside talking to a friend, a bird fell dead three feet from me. Does that have a meaning?

That is a pretty strong omen, to be honest. Is someone in the spirit world trying to warn you or tell you something? Maybe you already know that the path you are taking with someone is wrong. Stop and think about the situation.

I asked the universe for a sign and this morning there were dead maggots by the back door. What does this mean? Should I be worried or scared?

Maggots are a sign that you are negative or depressed. Are you going through a relationship problem? They are saying try to work it out, you both can if you try. The same goes for other depression or problems.

A fly has landed near me and will not move. No matter how many times I swat it away it comes back within seconds, lands in the same spot, faces me and continues to stay completely still. What could this mean?

I believe all little animals insects have a soul and mind, and sometimes they recognise an aura. Whether it’s because they know your aura, or just the soothing colours, either way, it’s a compliment to you.

A June bug always visits me after I talk with a certain person. What does this mean?

Some people have a rapport with animals or insects. We all have an electrical aura with colors, and I believe some insects and animals can see this and be attracted to the person. It just proves to me how amazing it all is!

A green grasshopper has been in my room for two days now. Last night, it hopped on my right arm. this morning when I woke up, it was dead inside my coffee mug. I felt so sad. what does this means?

Sometimes an animal feels an affinity towards people based on warmth or aura. Unfortunately, the coffee was just an accident.

While changing my son’s diaper I found a dead spider below his belly button area, fortunately, he did not get bitten. However, the following day while getting ready to eat dinner a small spider ran across in front of me, how bad is my luck?

Even though we tend to have a fear of spiders they are in fact the sign of good luck.

I found an upside down cockroach at my front door, twice. What does it mean?

A cockroach tells that you will always do well in your work or home life.

I’ve been seeing birds everywhere. Different types, from robins to sparrows and finches and even a huge black bird watching me from a telephone pole. And sometimes the crows have worms. I can’t for the life of me figure out what it all means. Any insight?

Nearly all animals can sense someone with hidden psychic talents. Maybe your aura is a particular color. Either way, they are picking up on your aura. I remember standing outside on my balcony and seeing a Red Kite just hovering nearby staring at me. I was feeling particularly Psychic on that day.

We have just returned home from the wake of my husband’s brother in law. My husband then saw a dead cockroach that was being eaten by ants right outside of the door of our room. What could this mean?

Sorry for your loss. I believe that the cockroach was just signifying the death, as this is what it shows.

I had a Buzzard land on a steel frame in my backyard within 30 feet of me, and it did not fly away. As they are not friendly birds, does this have any significance?

Possibly it is trying to convey a message to you. Check out the date that it landed there, was it significant in any way?

I was on my way to work this morning, and there were a few crows in the road. They flew away, but one flew into my car hood, then hit my window. Is that a bad omen?

It usually means an ending, but not necessarily bad. It can mean the end of a job or relationship. Of course, it could just mean the poor crow got confused and didn’t see the window!

Today I saw a centipede in my home. What does it mean?

Be careful of what you say to people, you don’t want to lose a friend.

What does it mean when you keep seeing maggots in strange places like an office where there shouldn’t be any?

If they are only around when you can see them then its a sign that something is niggling you. Are you worried about something? If you can work it out, then the maggots will stop. Maggots are a sign of ‘eating away’ at your thoughts.

Do you have any idea what kind of omen or message could come from a leech at your doorstep when the nearest body of water is far away?

A leech on your doorstep means that someone is out to suck you dry, psychically. Not literally of course but maybe try to cause trouble in your family, or even that a partner or a family member are holding a secret which even though you may not know it, it is causing you to stress because you know deep down that something is wrong, not always bad so don’t panic.

A male and female black bird were found lying dead together on my terrace in the garden. What could this signify?

Has something changed in your life lately? A dead blackbird signifies a complete change or bad news. But it can just mean something completely different in your life.

Today, I saw two blackbirds come to my patio and they were eating and trying to look at me through the glass doors. What does it mean?

Blackbirds can mean a number of things. Most people believe they are dark. But they actually reflect your mood or problems. If you were happy when you saw them they are telling you that ‘keep an eye out for trouble’ but if you are worried they are saying you should be careful. And you may hear bad news.

What does it mean when a bird hits your window?

Strangely enough, if it was a hummingbird, then it is good luck. An owl signifies ill luck, but any other bird means that a good change is coming.

I had previously asked you a question about a white egret in my front yard and your answer was that it’s a very lucky omen as many cultures see the white egret as special or good news. My question this time is: if it means good news, how long until the good news would arrive after seeing the egret in my yard? Could it be soon?

The trouble is with time is that it doesn’t always flow at the right speed so to speak! When I read the Tarot cards for people I tell them that the changes usually come between a few days and a few months. And yes it does usually work that way when they come back to tell me. I would imagine this would be the same. Just remember to keep your eyes open for the opportunity’s coming your way, you don’t want to miss that word or action.

What does a cardinal pecking at the window mean?

Any bird that pecks at your window is a sign that someone is trying to contact you from the Spirit world.

I saw a large orange venomous spider I’ve never seen before in my area at a family members house. For the first time in my life there was a snake in my own yard. While inspecting the snake a prey mantis jumps on my stomach. A family member of mine gently removed it and it jumped towards my head. This is too much to happen within a couple hours to be a coincidence. These things have ever happened to me before so for all of that to happen in one night has to mean something. What could it mean?

See also:  Instructions for use of insecticide

Animals see aura’s that we cannot see. By being scared of the spider, your colors changed and attracted the animals. The praying mantis definitely saw your kind aura and jumped on you. Of course, the mantis may have been scared of the spider too.

A fox crossed the path of my wedding party last night. Is there any significance to this?

It’s a very good luck symbol, so enjoy your wedding!

Why would scavengers refuse to feed off a dead animal?

There are lots of possibilities; one being that they had already eaten, or the dead animal was poisoned in some way.

What does it mean when you see a flock of crows flying around you and cawing?

A flock of crows, or a Murder as they are called always portrayed back luck in the past because they appeared after a battle. Now it’s believed that if you see uneven numbers its bad luck, but if they are even numbers of them then its good luck.

I woke up one morning to a severed mouse head on my back porch, then the very next morning with another different severed mouse head, only this time directly on my doorstep. Is this significant?

Probably a cat bringing them. Do you have a cat?

What does it mean to find ants crawling around on my pillow in the middle of the night?

Well maybe not very pleasant but its a great omen, lol! money is coming your way!

Today I found three bees and a moth in my house. What does this mean?

I think moths are pretty generic, but bees in your house are a great omen! In fact, the words I believe are they are ‘a blessing’!

I had a finch walk up to me. I picked it up, and it died in my hands. What does this mean?

This is, strangely enough, a good thing. Well for you at least. Not the bird! It is showing you new beginnings; a new job, romance or even money!

When in the street sitting in cafés, birds come to the table and they’re looking at me deep into my eyes like telling me things. Cats come to me in the streets and when at cafés, look at me right in the eyes and kind of telling me things, then wait for a pet then go. Dogs do the same thing. Why?

Some people seem to attract animals. I am one of those people too! They pick up on your aura. How lovely!

what does it mean when a spider crawls up your back before major surgery?

Funnily enough, even though people don’t like spiders, one crawling on you is a sign of good luck, so do not worry!

What does a red fox crossing in front of you mean?

To see one cross your path is a lucky omen.

My sister just called me and told me that she found a dead black cat by her car today. She said that the cat was facing the door of her house, and it was sliced from its chin to its genitals. Is this some sort of evil because obviously, it was intentional?

That’s a difficult question. I don’t believe this was an omen, just a random evil act by someone. Has she annoyed anyone? If not, then I wouldn’t worry.

Yesterday I saw a dead hawk laying in the middle of the road. A few hours later my wife told me she wanted a divorce, out of the blue. I assume now that the hawk was a warning? Could I be missing anything else?

Maybe a coincidence, but then again I don’t believe in them! we don’t really know how the ‘other world’ works, but it does work in strange ways. So yes, I believe it was a sign.

I woke up this morning to find dead insects and a bird, is this okay?

Dead insects and especially dead birds mean an ending, not a death though. Maybe an end to a marriage, job, or money.

Today when I got home, as I was driving up my driveway to my garage, I saw a white egret in my front yard just hanging around close to a bush I have close to the wooden fence next to my house. Is there a meaning or omen about an egret appearing? I don’t live close to a lake, swamp, or beach.

It’s a very lucky omen to see an egret near your house. Many cultures see the white egret as special or good news.

I have seen a dead grey rat twice while walking and somewhere. I feel that it is some kind of sign that the universe is giving me. I am not sure if that is a bad omen or not. I read it somewhere that it means «to transition,» and I am just not sure. What do you think?

An ending of any animal life that crosses your path does show the ending or transition. But of course it could just be the life and death of the animal. If it does happen a few times then I would sit back and relax, let your mind work out a new route for you. You may just surprise yourself.

Yesterday, I was cleaning and a little black spider came down his web and started crawling on me, and this evening while sitting watching tv, a mouse crawled on me. What kind of omen could this be?

It seems you have a magnetic and good luck disposition! I would imagine that you smile a lot, and are warm and friendly. Animals of all kinds will be drawn to that.

I woke up from a nap after struggling with a sickness for several days. There was a worm crawling on my pillow. What does this mean?

A worm so close to you shows renewal. In this case, the worm is ‘taking’ your illness away.

My best friend passed away yesterday, while I was talking with family I noticed a cricket walking very close to us. It even followed us down a hallway to the door of the room my friend died in. Was it just coincidence or could it have some significance?

I am sorry for your loss. People believe small animals or insects don’t have emotions or feelings, but I believe they do. To be honest, I am not entirely sure but I would like to believe they saw ‘something’ and reacted to it.

On Saturday, on my way home, a squirrel passed across my path running. Does it have a meaning?

I think it was probably just going back to its home but if you see a lot of them and they are not scared of you, then you have an affinity with them, which is a lovely thing.

I have been having many encounters with worms, first a dead cat with worms all around, second worms n insects in flour, a beetle on the table, then suddenly a dead dried centipede appeared in my room. Do these relate to luck?

Are you nervous, upset or generally a stressed person? It’s possible that the insects get drawn to you rather like a moth around a flame. They get too close then die. Try to lighten up a bit, and the insects will go away.

I have allergic reactions to wasps or bees. Recently, a wasp went near my leg and I got an allergic reaction to it. What kind of omen can it be?

Not an omen. Just your body reacting badly.

I have a frog on my front steps every night. He stays til I leave for work. Does this have any meaning?

I love frogs, they are such a lovely omen. Good luck, fertility and in some cultures even regarded as rebirth.

I had a dream about a massive amount of slugs on my bedroom wall. My first instinct was to kill them and then I saw how beautiful the slugs looked. A blue white and yellow colour, only one of them was looking right at me and then I kept thinking the slugs would turn into a butterfly. Not sure what the dream was trying to tell me. What does it mean?

The slug is a symbol of taking your time, allowing yourself to grow into the person you wish to be. The more colorful the creature the better chance you have of succeeding in the things you want to do. As you have lots it just goes to show how much success you will have.

Spiders are always showing up around me every day, why?

Spiders are said to be lucky! Of course it could be that you have a nest nearby too.

What does a bird flying into my windshield while driving?

It means beware of coming obstacles in your life.

Are hummingbird’s good luck?

Yes, good luck and joy!

I want to chase the wasp leaving outside my house but their nest is attached to the frames that support my roof top. Is it advisable?

I wouldn’t do anything yourself about it. I would get the experts in to remove, especially if you have children or are vulnerable to allergies or bites.

A squirrel has given birth to 3 kits in our house. What does it mean?

I don’t think this is an omen, as such, I believe some animals can sense kindness and protection by seeing your aura. And how lovely to see those babies!

What does a dream about centipedes in someone’s cup mean?

Centipedes are a sign of good luck.

I very frequently spot worms and insects everywhere. Be it in my food or anywhere, I am always the first to spot one. I am fed up of this instinct. Why do only I get worms in my food? Is it a bad sign?

Not so much an omen as maybe buying gone off food? As for worms in your food, yes it’s bad, but only for your health!

There has been a family of hawks living In a tree above my house and lately has been attacking my family members scratching them deeply in their heads causing them to bleed. I was never attacked until yesterday but it did not scratch or claw at me. It just seemed to fly low hitting me in the side of my head and then. What does this mean?

I would imagine that on a practical level the birds are probably protecting babies in the tree. Your family maybe getting to close to them. On the other hand it maybe that you have fed them too much and they now swoop down to try and take food. That has happened to my town. We have red kites and they have been taking food from people’s hands and scratching them. Of course it could be an omen.

Hi Winifred, I don’t think this is an omen, more likely blocked drains and an infestation of rats. Maybe call in the pest control.

I have sat face to face to a black rat and and while standing up it ran to the back of the washing machine and has been there for a while. Later there was an offensive odour coming from the backyard to the kitchen. What does it mean exactly?

I think it was telling you to buy. Animals are part of the forest, and forests have dryads, fairies and so on. This was a magical welcome!

Renee Souder

Right after stopping to ask about a house that is now up for sale, that I have loved in my area for many years, and asking about it, I started to pull out to turn the corner when a very young deer suddenly came out of nowhere, crossed the road and went to the creek on the property to drink. I started talking to it, and it kept responding to my voice, looking at me. I have lived in this area all these years and traveled that road more times than I’d care to imagine, and have never ever seen a deer around. I couldn’t help but wonder what this meant. Anything? Nothing? That I should try to get it? What? Ideas?

Nell Rose

Thanks Shane, that is fascinating. No doubt you will find your way, good luck!

Okay, I have a lot and I mean a lot going on! Name it and pretty much been there done that, seen that. Apparently I’m an empath, who knew, thought it was normal to feel others bad vibes, know the lies. Kids and animals always like me. Enough background, I have had blue jays from a couple to over 50 at my house, then I moved and they are here too. So strange, my whole life I’ve hardly seen them. Then the black birds come, then swallows and morning doves and cardinals. Poof crows, but they won’t come on my property. All summer I have had huge bats in my house, it’s spray foamed and caulked, snakes and outside, wasps, ants, bees. Several of the bats have died because they won’t leave, by me. The snakes are everywhere and shedding, I’m done moving them so a few have died, lawn mower. Now the snakes freak out when I’m near them. I’ve been stung 3x in last month by bees, all by accident, very strange. One up my pant leg, one on a door knob, and one at a golf course with my daughter in a soda I spit out. I now have a hive above my porch, wth! I have thousands of ants but they leave me alone. I have had turtles nest and lay eggs by my deck. I sprayed insecticide and now I found a dead baby turtle. WTH. I don’t like the creepy critters and spiders too! I let it go as long as possible but come on! Now I feel horrible about the dead creepy crawlers. It’s bad enough I have to deal with bad people emotionally but animals and insects too. Change. Change what. I’ve been spun inside out, outside in, gutted and ran over. I changed, I stopped supporting evil people. They have systematically destroyed me and everything I loved, wife, job of 26 years, friends, family, then even girlfriends afterwards and my house! I am not and will not be evil! I have free will! They may run the world but not me! I will not be part of bad at any cost and I have been ripped apart! I believe in God and good and that is it, not debatable. I was a beast at work, helped everyone, simplifying everything made everything better. I never failed, I always figured out a different way and made things better, then they fired me out of the blue. Okay fine, I kept going trying to figure it out, road blocks and outright attacked me. Okay. slow down. Okay. now all the animals, some good and a lot bad. Okay. what am I not seeing here? I used to work all the time now I don’t, not by choice, but fine. I came to terms with it, but what am I missing? Did I say frogs by the hundreds ish, I live in the country and have never seen this.

I am no longer around evil people at work because I don’t work, no longer around evil women, single, no longer associated with evil family or so called friends. Very clean.

Apparently the animals want something of me, but what. As a side note I got out and made a few trips down south and out west and came across some really bad areas driving. Denver spooled me completely out and I couldn’t even drive it was so bad and dark total chaos by too many bad people, just driving. I can tell people what I felt and where who are local and I was told to buy a lottery ticket because I was correct. However it doesn’t work like that.

Okay, so I have a lot going on. What am I missing. I believe in a lot of good things, fate, carma, destiny, but not at the cost of being bad, unethical or immoral. No exceptions. I went from 95% work and 4.99% pleasing everyone else. To no work, and just helping certain people. I would say I am still the same just without work and a better understanding of reality vs. my previous understanding of reality (naive). I have changed so WTH. Now what?

Hi Iris, thanks for reading. Yes I believe you do have ‘something’ with baby animals. Some people have an aura that attracts animals and birds. Yours must be very strong to attract the animals, amazing!

Hi Nell Rose, While getting ready to work in my front yard, I saw a baby (finch) bird that seem could not fly yet. It hop towards me, I walk toward it then it would hop away. so I left it. it would continue to come towards me. they hop away into the bushes. I went inside the house to get some more of my gardening items. I check the bush never saw again. Now today in my back yard, I saw a baby opossum. I feel it a sign of something? Is there something with baby animals thanks

Hi Elizabeth, how awful! It all depends on how deeply she is thinking. On the one hand it may show her dislike as in ‘I hate you, you maggot’, or, ‘this is a symbol of death.’ But after checking the real meaning, it actually means ‘I want you to change, or change to my way of thinking.’ Hope that helps.

My mother-n-law has some kind of vendetta against me and she put a maggot into my drink. she also did the same thing to my fiancee step daughter. I have searched and searched to see why or what type of symbolic it has cause it has to mean something. She is of cathloic faith and born in mexico so it means something i know it and feel it in my gut!! Please give me some type of knowledge or where to look for my peace of mind thank you maam

Hi Mimi, maybe ‘cleanse’ your house with smudging sticks. you can either make these or buy. light them and walk around the house to spiritually cleanse it. On a practical note get family and friends to give your house a really good clean, then use the smudge stick again. this way it should soon be clear. Good luck.

I am Hispanic and believe that if you wear a red bracelet it protect you from bad vibes and tonight I got a feeling like it was irritating me and I wanted to remove it but I didn’t. My house is infested by rats and ants and my kids have head lice and I have done everything to remove them. I’m not a dirty person I like to keep things nice and clean but I can’t get rid of them and there are owls making weird noises just outside my house. I don’t like to believe in superstitions but I’m scared for my family. Is there a meaning to any of these infestation?

Hi Shannon, a dead mouse means that something you are doing is coming to an end. Whether that is good or bad is known only by you.

Nell honey. This is my 3rd visit to this article. my 2nd one being nearly 2 yrs. ago. You know Effer. always something more to say! I came back to check out some of the animals & their omens. This time, I noticed the Pigs. they’re a bad omen, especially if you meet one immediately after getting married. Hell, girlfriend, let’s talk about this! Of COURSE we women will meet a pig immediately after we get married. because we discover the man we married is the PIG! Gosh, that’s an easy one to remember! C’mon, am I right or what girls? Years and years of picking up, cleaning up and wiping their butts!!

I think I got this down pat now, Nell! Love ya, Effer

HI Felicia, it means that you are an empath! It’s a cross between being sympathetic and psychic! How lucky! I love the fact that animals are drawn to me too. Thanks for reading.

All animals are drawn to me and weirdly enough I can tell what they are feeling not sure what this means, not only animals but children also. I also feel I can sense when a spirits energy is around me. I’ve always been interested in the paranormal ever since I was a little girl and saw my first apparition

Nell Rose

First of all let me say how sorry I am for your loss. And yes I do believe animals and birds do have an affinity with someone passing. Maybe they are messengers too. I don’t think we will ever really know their purpose but I do believe it was there for your mother.

A couple of weeks ago my mother had less than a week to live and I visited her briefly and went home. After being at home awhile I heard a bird chirping in my garage somewhere around my car. When I found it (a dark-eyed junco I believe) it, I opened both garage doors but it didn’t want to leave. It didn’t appear to be injured and it flew up and landed on different shelves and moved to other places in the garage but still wouldn’t leave for a very long time. A couple hours later I got a call saying my mom had only a few hours left and she ended up dying that night.

Could the bird be considered some type of omen?

Nell Rose

Hi, animals and insects are drawn to some people because they can tell by their aura that they are safe. I get dogs, lots of dogs. LOL!

Hi Ket, any dead animal or insect that is in your path shows that something has ended and you have to take the path of beginning elsewhere. It can be a good sign or bad, its up to you but keeping your eyes open for the new opportunity will show up quicker than you thought!

I was asking for a sign regarding my career, and I saw a dead blue and brown butterfly in the city centre. What does a dead butterfly mean as an omen?

Nell Rose

Animals can sense and ‘see’ aura’s of people. They can instinctively tell if someone is nice and safe for them to appear. It seems animals love you!

We have numerous animals, reptiles and insects appear in our yard. owls (at different times and species), black snakes, egrets, woodpecker pecking on three different windows, crows, squirrels, raccoons, cats, hummingbirds, different types of birds, spiders and we are not sure what this means. Can you please help us find the meaning. Thank you!

Nell Rose

Hi Zoey, a dead crow is a sign of change rather like the Hanged Man in Tarot. You are coming to a crossroads, and its up to you to decide to change or stay on the same path.

This is quite an informative article that probably made me more superstitious than anything! XD

I’m not very superstitious but I love exploring the symbolism of shapes and especially animals as they are very interesting, if not a bit off at times but still quite intriguing. I thank you for writing such an informative article and I will probably refer back to this soon enough as I am a hobbyist who loves to write fictional stories and create drawings.

Once again, many thanks for the very informative and intriguing article!

I keep seeing small brown birds in very large flocks. First in my yard when they were loudly singing and flying towards the house. Next in front of a large sun at sunset flying continuously in a circular pattern (my son’s name is Rey, like ray of sunlight, who was critically ill for over 6 months this year). Now today they are outside of my office window perched on an electrical wire. What could this mean?

Hi Kirsty, I am so sorry to hear about your daughters uncle, sometimes animals do pick up certain signs to make them come and give you a message. I think the others were maybe just coincidences, but the first one was real.

Kirsty Smith

There was this magpie that appered out of the blue but kept coming back for three days after. On the last day another one appeared. I told my daughter not to look him in the eyes through the window ,but didnt listen same day her uncle hung himself back home in nz. We live in brisbane. Few days later 5 peacocks were on our neigbour roof. But only to be seen by my partner and children not sure what this means but i asked for a peacock to be my sign for the angels for when i am going to come into $. Then just last night the biggest moth appeared in the house i freaked cause it was so loud i was like wat is that. and then next day one hit me in the head but was much smaller i was thinking gosh now what is this sign.. ? Hi Brandi, sorry to hear about your father, and hope he is well soon. It seems that spirits are more likely than omens involved. one of his relatives who has passed over is keeping an eye on him. Just say a quiet thank you when you walk in the room. they will hear you.

My dad is in the hospital with pnemonia. I went to go visit him yesterday and in the opposite side of the room. His silver ring fell from somewhere and landed 2-3 feet away from me. I wasn’t sure where the ring came from but I didn’t as no where near the area. What could this mean?

Amazing! Definitely some sort of sign. Is there anybody who has passed who maybe wants to send you a message? are you involved in something you are in too deep with? good luck!

I’ve noticed 3 different dead cardinals during my jogs on a local sidewalk and on the road while driving. Tonight i saw a fox running just at midnight as a thunder/lightning storm was approaching. as this storm approached and i moved toward my car in the parking lot, five small yellow leaves blew toward me on the ground rustling along the way. I was fixated on them for some reason, and they lined up in a perfectly spaced line about a foot or so apart.

What is all this?

Hi Audrina, With the weather so hot at the moment all round the world it may of course be an environmental thing. You mention the Tarot? the death card in the Tarot means an ending, a transition or complete change. And seeing dead insects is pretty much the same. has he changed a job, or something much more dramatic lately? maybe its time he did. it may be dramatic, but its not dangerous. Thanks for reading.

Hi Neil, My partner and I are a bit concerned because he has been seeing bugs(specifically belly up/upside down) either dead or in the process of dying(legs still wiggling) and we would like to know what this could possibly mean? A good or bad Omen? They are usually crickets or grasshoppers which NORMALLY bring good luck. However, our biggest concern is the fact that every single time he is finding them dead and upside down*. In Tarot card readings, if a card is revealed upside down then the meaning usually becomes opposite of the original. or at least something bad most of the time. Have you ever come across anything like this? or heard of anything similar? If we could please get a response from you we would be so grateful.

Don’t worry, its only if its pure white then it could mean death, but even that has many different interpretations. such as an ending instead, or change. but when a bird comes calling it means there is a message for you, you just have to watch out for it, okay?

I had a little brownish gray bird fly into my kitchen last night. My front door was open and i finally got it to go out the back door which is in my kitchen. Ive never had this happen to me before!! What does it mean. I was ALWAYS taught that if a bird comes in your house it means death.

This is more of a cat behaviour than an omen. Maybe check out a cat site to see why they do this? thanks

My male cat always bring leeches to my house & whenever he scrath his body they will always fall all over the house on the floor, although we live in town with clean surroundings with no trees & bushes around . why is this happening often?

Hi Victoria, I believe it means that there is someone out there who is annoying you. Just two flies means a small aggravation.

What does it mean to find two dead flies in the same place?

Birds represent a soul. If you have someone in the spirit world, they are trying to tell you something! If not, it could be a soul that you don’t know, but please keep an eye out for a message, okay?

We have had a small bird sitting on the window seal looking into house , what’s this mean?

To be honest I have no idea. But if I were you I would go and get a tetanus shot.

A rat bite my right finger at sleep, please what omen does this mean?

It is a sign of renewal or good luck!
