Spray from fleas — blood-sucking arthropods, attacking your pets and your housing — is effective and convenient to use an external remedy that destroys these ectoparasites. As veterinarians note, dogs and feline fleas must be combated, as their bites can cause deep scratching and dermatitis.
In addition, fleas, as intermediate hosts of nematodes and cestodes, can be a source of invasive diseases (helminthiases).
Indications of the flea spray
Indications for the use of any remedy for fleas (including in aerosol form) are entomoses, which are caused not only by fleas, but also by other bloodsucking insect parasites, in particular parasitomorphic mites.
A flea spray is used with obvious symptoms of ectoparasitic infection, which are manifested by restless behavior of four-legged, frequent scratching and biting of various parts of the body due to itching and irritation of the skin. Traces of painful flea bites — small spots of red color — are visible on the skin areas with a less dense undercoat (especially on the belly and groin area).
In the instructions of most veterinary preparations of this group it is indicated that they can be used to control other types of ectoparasites — ixodid mite and fluffy (lice and withers). Also among the combined insecto-acaricide preparations are the means that help protect animals from the bites of blood-sucking dipterous insects (mosquitoes, mosquitoes, and gnats).
These sprays are recommended for the treatment of the usual resting place of an animal (rug) and other places where fleas can get caught.
, ,
Today, the owners of dogs and cats are offered a lot of means to combat the ubiquitous ectoparasites, here are some names of sprays from fleas of different manufacturers:
- Bars forte — a spray of fleas, ticks and poohoe for dogs and cats (produced by the Russian Federation).
- Frontline (Frontline), produced by the French company Merial; there are Barrier Super sprays, Fiprex (Netherlands) and Fiprist (KRKA) with the same active substance.
- Hartz spray: preparations for fleas and mites for dogs and cats Hartz UltraGuard (from adult insects) and Hartz UltraGuard Plus (destroys both adult fleas and their eggs); produce in the US (Hartz Mountain Corporation).
- Bayer Bolfo Biofilter (Bayer Animal Health GmbH, Germany) to protect cats and dogs from entomosis.
- Insecto-acaricidal sprays Rolf Club (TM RolfClub of the Russian company Ecoprom).
- Spray from fleas and mites for dogs Burdi (produced in Ukraine) and its Russian synonym Spray Cistotel.
- Sprays Extrasol M (Ukraine) and Insectol.
It should be noted that when choosing a flea spray for your pet, veterinarians recommend paying attention to the active ingredients that make up their composition (see Pharmacodynamics).
In addition, a wide range of aerosol insecticacaricide preparations is available to treat the apartment against fleas, ticks and other parasitic insects. For example, Hartz Spray — Control Home Flea & Tick Killer; Spray Flee or Flea Spray (Spain); a series of aerosols Combat Spray (Korean); Spray Clean house (RF). They will be discussed in a separate section — How to treat an apartment from fleas spray?
The active substance fipronil, which contains Bars sprays, Frontline, Super barrier, Fiprex and Fiprist, is a phenylpyrazole insecticide paralyzing the neuromuscular insect system. Fipronil acts on the complementary receptors of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) of ectoparasites and blocks them, which leads to the depolarization of nerve cells. As a result, the transmission of nerve signals through the channels of Cl ions of presynaptic membranes is disrupted, and general insect paralysis occurs.
In addition to fipronil, Bars spray contains a benzamide insecticide diflubenzuron, which is a chlorine-containing derivative of benzenephenylurea and acts by blocking the synthesis of chitin necessary to form the cuticle of insects during the transition of their larvae to the next stages. As a result, the cycle of insect development stops and they die.
Bolfo Spray is the insecticide of the propoxur carbamate class, whose action on fleas and other insects is similar to the action of acetylcholine, but with an overabundance of this neurohormone, its hydrolysis and inhibition of cholinergic reactions and blockade of nerve impulses in synapses occur. After a single application of Balfo, its insecticidal effect persists for a maximum of two weeks.
Pharmacological action Hartz spray UltraGuard provides tetrachlorvinphos — a derivative of trichlorophenyl phosphate, that is, an insecticide, close to all known chlorophos. This substance also paralyzes the nervous system of insects, inhibiting the enzyme cholinesterase. And in the Hartz UltraGuard Plus spray there is S-methoprene — a synthetic analogue of the juvenile hormone of insects (supporting the insect metamorphosis at all stages of their life cycle), which repeatedly exceeds its activity. Under the influence of increased doses of an analogue of this hormone, the process of changing ontogenetic stages is violated, and the life cycle of a flea or tick is irretrievably interrupted.
The mechanism of the insecticidal action of the spray against fleas and mites The Rolf Club is associated with the already mentioned fipronil, as well as pyriproxyphene, which is a juvenoid and acts similarly to S-methoprene.
Active substance spray from fleas and mites for dogs Burdi is an insecticide-pyrethroid of the second generation permethrin (a derivative of dimethyl cyclopropanecarboxylic acid). Penetrating into the body of an insect, pyrethroids as well as the above-mentioned active substances of insecticaricidal drugs block acetylcholine receptors, inhibit the activity of cholinesterase and disrupt the process of generation and propagation of impulses along nerve fibers. Spray Purity for cats also contains permethrin.
A similar neuro-paralytic effect on insects exfoliates from fleas Extrazole M — due to its pyrethroids (deltamethrin, esbiotrin and tetrametrin). And in the spray Insektol contains only deltamethrin.

In the instructions for spraying from fleas, manufacturers note the lack of systemic effects of these drugs on animals during their treatment against insect parasites. That is, they do not penetrate into the bloodstream.
Insecticidal substances fall only on the skin and wool, although adsorption into the skin, hair follicles and partially into the sebaceous hypodermic glands takes place. What, in fact, is the duration of the protective action of the drugs (within 30-40 days).
, , ,
Dosing and administration
The instructions to these drugs indicate that the treatment of the animal should be carried out either outdoors or in a room that is well ventilated (you need to open the window, or better the entire window). To protect yourself from getting the drug on the person doing the treatment of the animal, you should wear a respirator, goggles and rubber gloves. And that the animal does not lick the applied preparation, until it dries completely on the dog, it is necessary to put on a muzzle, and on dogs of small breeds and cats — a cervical collar-limiter.
The bottle or bottle should be shaken several times and kept in a vertical position during use, pressing the spray head. Spray is applied throughout the body against the growth of the coat; muzzle and ears are treated with a tampon moistened with the drug.
According to the instructions, the spray Bars sprayed from a distance of 20 cm (from the body of the animal) at the rate of 1-2 pressures (0.5-1 ml) for each kilogram of body weight. After a quarter of an hour, the animal’s hair should be combed; do not bathe, do not iron and let the animals to the animal within two days after the application of this remedy.
Dosage of Frontline spray (100 ml capacity) — 6 claps per kilogram of body weight with short animal hair, 12 for long hair. In dogs, the anti-block effect lasts almost two months, in cats — up to six weeks.
Hartz spray should be applied from a distance of 15 cm and Bolfo — 30 cm so as to wet all the hair.
Spray Rolf Club is applied to the wool for 1-2 pressures on the sprayer each kilogram of animal weight (ie 1-2 ml). Also applied spray Purity and Extrastol M, the optimal distance for spraying — 20 cm.
Dosage of the agent Insektol: 1 press = 1 second; 3 presses — for animals weighing up to 2 kg, 6 for up to 10 kg, 12 for weight in the range of 10-20 kg, 18-20-40 kg, 24 strokes (with the direction of spraying at different points) — if the animal weighs more than 40 kg.
, ,
Overdosage Bars can cause hypersalivation, tremor, and vomiting in an animal. Symptoms of exceeding the dose of Belfo: salivation and narrowed pupils, as well as vomiting and / or diarrhea.
Information on the overdose of other drugs listed in the review is not available in the instructions for their use.
Any flea spray can not be used simultaneously with other insecticides (including in the form of drops).
Sprays from fleas can not be stored in the kitchen (near food): they should be kept in a dark place inaccessible to children, at a temperature of + 5-25 ° C.
The shelf life of the Rolf Club and Extrazole M spray is 36 months; Bars, Insectol, Purity, Hartz Spray and Bolfo — 24 months; Front Line — 18 months.
How to treat flat from fleas spray?
For the treatment of residential and other premises from fleas and other insects there is a series Combat Spray; Spray Clean House, Hartz Spray — Control Home Flea & Tick Killer; Spray Flee or Flea Spray — Flee Household Flea Spray (Bimeda, Ireland). You can treat an apartment from flea spray for animals Extrasol M.
Do not produce spray Get: this product is a concentrated insecticidal suspension based on the contact phosphoroorganic chlorpyrifos insecticide, from which the solution is prepared, poured into a container with a spray nozzle and processing the premises from fleas, cockroaches, bugs, mosquitoes, etc. Other names of emulsions with chlorpyrifos — Sichlor, Sinuzan.
Spray Combat (Korean Combat Spray) is designed for insecticide treatment of housing and has options: Combat Super Spray (Combat Super Spray) and Combat Multy Spray — against fleas, bedbugs, cockroaches, mites and spiders; Both variants contain insecticides-pyrethroids. To treat an apartment from fleas spray Combat, it is recommended to use it with closed windows, in the absence of people and pets.
Insecticidal spray Clean house as active substances also contains pyrethroids — tetramethrin and cypermethrin. With the same substances there are aerosols Raptor, KRA wagon, etc. Treatments against fleas are subject to such places as skirting and crevices in the floor and walls (closer to the floor), the back side of the floor carpets, the lower part of the upholstered furniture. Airtight treated room is recommended not earlier than 20 minutes after spraying the product.
Spray Flee or Flea spray does not contain insecticides and does not require any precautions; his task is to neutralize the larvae and pupae of fleas, which the hosts brought from their dogs or cats, and who managed to crumple in the apartment, overlaid the eggs. The Flee spray consists of a volatile silicone of cyclopentasiloxane and a viscous silicone, dimethicone. When applying the spray to the places where a dog or cat usually is (litter, chair, carpet on the floor), a thin water and airtight film forms, which isolates flea eggs and pupae and creates extremely unfavorable conditions for their hatching and development. That is, in fact, it is the process of immobilizing flea infection within the home.
Flea spray should be sprayed, keeping the balloon 40-50 cm from the surface to be treated, for each square meter for about 8-10 seconds (distributing the jet with the movements of the hand with the balloon and shaking it from time to time). Darkened spots will gradually lighten (this will take about two months): this slowly evaporates the silicone mixture that prevented fleas from multiplying.
A prerequisite for achieving the effect of this drug: in advance, in order to relieve the ectoparasitic infection of animals, one must use a normal insecticocaricidal spray against fleas.

Frequently asked questions:
Q: I have a fish tank which is too heavy to move — what should I do?
A: If the tank has a pump, switch it off. Cover the tank completely with two thick blankets or cling film to prevent any sprayed mist reaching the water. When spraying Indorex in the room, ensure that the nozzle is pointing downwards and away from the tank. After half an hour, ventilate the room for two hours. It will then be safe to remove the blankets and switch the pump back on.
Q: I used Indorex a few days ago and there are still fleas jumping around!
A: Flea pupae are unaffected by any insecticide flea spray. These pupae can survive in the house for over 12 months but do hatch in response to vibration, especially in warm humid weather. These newly hatched fleas will be killed within 24 hours by Indorex for up to 2 months after application. The hatching process can be accelerated with warmth and vibration by:
- Allowing your pet to roam around your home
- Turning up the heating
- Thorough vacuum cleaning for 7 consecutive days, as the movement and vibration encourages the pupae to hatch, which are then removed by the vacuum cleaner
Q: I’m asthmatic — what should I do?
A: The product itself represents no particular danger but the propellant is carbon dioxide and increased levels of this gas can be associated with asthma attacks. Consult your doctor and preferably get someone else to spray for you. Ventilate rooms well before returning.
Q: Is it safe for my baby (crawling on the floor) after spraying?
A: Yes — Indorex has been approved for amateur domestic use. Once dry (allow around an hour), Indorex binds to all surfaces in such a way that it will not come off onto the skin.
Q: Is it safe to use if I’m pregnant?
A: Yes, however, sensible precautions such as avoiding inhaling fumes and washing hands after use is advised.
Q: What about human bedding?
A: There is no need to spray human bedding as flea eggs and larvae cannot penetrate through the fibres of mattresses. Washing bedding and mattress protectors on a hot wash and correctly treating the room will be sufficient. Vacuuming the mattress will remove any eggs, larvae and pupae.

Step by Step instructions to Flea Bomb your house
You have finalized the flea-fogger to end your pet’s suffering from flea attack. The instructions are given on the product that you have purchased.
I want you to go ahead with the following steps to execute an effective flea fogging or bombing.
Preparation before flea fogging
The first step in preparation for flea fogging is to clean up your house completely forcing the unscrupulous pests out of their hiding place.
For this, vacuum your house thoroughly including the carpets, couches, curtains, and your dog’s sleeping furniture and bedding or any area which is frequented by your pet.
Wrap up all the things (clothes, toiletries), in polythene bags or wrapping sheets, since you won’t wish to contaminate these with poisonous fogger. Once you complete bombing you can take them out as clean as before.
Move your indoor plants and other delicate furniture pieces, outside to keep them safe from poisonous fumes of fogger.
Cover floors of the rooms to be fogged, with old newspapers.Shut all the windows tightly and unplug all the electrical appliances while this process is being undertaken.
Get masks for you and all others who will be assisting you, to get minimum exposure to these harmful chemicals.
Last but most important – request your closest friend to arrange for a small get together as you will have 8-9 spare hours before you open your house again after fogging.
Steps to execute flea bombing
Read the instructions carefully on the flea fogger canister and decide how much quantity is needed for your space.
After covering your face with a mask, shake the fogger vigorously to shake up the chemicals enclosed.
Now open the flea fogger canister by pushing the release valve really hard. Release of valve strongly is very essential otherwise the canister will stop in between the fogging process.
Start from the farthest end of the room and spread the chemical in a single and long spray while going backwards towards the door and maintaining the distance away from the cloud of spray created.
As soon as the canister is emptied, rush towards the door and fasten it tightly behind you. Go to your friend’s house and enjoy your hard earned 8 free hours.
Winding up after flea fogging
Return back to your house after 8 hours and open all the window. Switch on the fans to blow out any residual fumes. Throw away all the newspapers spread on the floor and the empty canisters.
Wipe, clean and mop the floor, cupboards and cabinets, thoroughly to remove any strains of the flea fogger.
Do not vacuum the carpets and curtains immediately as they are still a safe harbor for flea eggs or larvae escaping the process. This ensures that any hidden pests get enough time to be exterminated within next two days.
Around one hour after opening and cleaning the house, you are ready to bring back the plant pots and other furniture you moved out of house earlier.
Replace the things from polythene bags, back to the cupboards and cabinets. Throw away the discarded covers.
After two days of spraying flea fogger, vacuum your carpets and curtains to remove all the dead eggs and larvae.
Repeat this process every two months to get rid of this problem forever.

PEST CONTROL PLAN 4
ALL ABOUT FLEAS
( Ctenocephalides felis )
Size: Tiny insects measuring about one-sixth inch in length and are laterally flattened.
Behavior: One female flea can lay about 18 eggs a day and just 20 fleas on a dog can produce 360 eggs per day and over 2,000 eggs in a week. After the home is treated with flea control products, it may take up to two weeks or more before fleas are no longer seen. Vacuuming as often as possible after the flea extermination can help shorten this time period.
Fleas are ectoparasites of animals, meaning they live on the outside of the body and need to feed on the blood of these animals in order to produce eggs. Because fleas usually feed and lay their eggs while the pet is sleeping, the pet’s resting areas are where the most fleas will be found. Many pets acquire fleas outside in the yard, which can lead to a flea infestation inside the home. Research has demonstrated that urban wildlife, such as raccoons and opossums, are commonly responsible for introducing these biting pests onto residential properties where the pets can encounter them.
Tips for Control
Controlling a flea infestation successfully requires four steps:
Preparation for treatment
Treatment of pets
Treatment of the inside premises
Treatment of flea activity sites outside
Obviously, the pet is critical to minimizing flea infestations, and regular grooming helps to limit fleas on the pet. For this reason, customers need to keep the pet groomed and treated with on-animal flea control products. Consult your veterinarian for assistance in treating your pets for fleas and ticks.
Step One. Any flea extermination will be less effective if the home is not prepared properly by completing the following steps:
Remove all items, such as toys, clothes and pet food from all floors
Wash or replace pet bedding.
Vacuum all carpets and rugs thoroughly, including beneath beds and upholstered furniture.
Clean all wood, tile and linoleum floors by sweeping and mopping.
Clean concrete floors with soap and water in the garage, basement or enclosed patio where pets rest or stay.
Remove all pets including birds and reptiles. Cover fish tanks with a damp towel and turn off the air pump. (Note: saltwater tanks cannot have pumps disconnected.)
Replace any pet bedding outdoors and make all shaded areas, crawl spaces, etc. available for treatment.
Arrange to be out of the home for several hours until the treatment has thoroughly dried.
Step Two. The homeowner needs to arrange for treating the pet, and this should be done at the same time that the home is treated. A number of on-animal treatment products are now available. Treatment of pets should be done under the direction of a veterinarian.
Step Three. In homes with an active flea infestation, a residual treatment combined with an insect growth regulator should be applied. The professionals at Terminix® flea extermination service know how to get rid of fleas by using the latest flea control products. Efforts should be focused on the areas where pets rest or sleep, as these are the sites where the most fleas will be located.
Step Four. Outside, treatment is typically applied to shaded areas and beneath shrubs and decks where pets rest or sleep.
