What does it mean when a black squirrel crosses your path?
Well, anyway, my week was just one big pile of retarded. On monday, I got a summons in the mail for fucking jury duty. I sent them the «I’m in college, you’re not gonna waste my time and fuck up my grades» excuse. I hope it works. It did for Pat. Then I pulled three late-nighter/all-nighters in a row, then overslept on thursday (the day we were workshopping my story in class), realized I’d left my coat in the darkroom on wednesday, and got into a car accident. The short of it is, the coat was right where I left it, the workshop was practiacally pointless, and the car is only minorly damaged. It was the other driver’s fault anyway; she cut me off and made a left in front of me with no signal on a gravel-covered, hilly road near my house (aka. the middle of nowhere). Dad fixed the damage anyway. I’m so glad my car is predominantly plastic. Dent-resistant Saturn can’t be beat.
We went over Meghan’s yesterday evening for her birthday. ‘Twas fun, and many amusing things happened, but the Indian food gave me a migraine on the way home, so I forgot most of it. -_-
I saw two good movies in the past two weeks though: Shaun of the Dead which is wonderfully absurd, mundane, and real (I loved Shaun, he was my favorite part of the movie), and I (heart) Huckelbees, the also very absurd, mundane, and real existentialist comedy. It seems I’ve entirely missed the theatrical release of Donnie Darko director’s cut, and I’m direly hoping I haven’t missed Ghost in the Shell: Innocence.
I’m thinking about going to the Library tonight (or some day soon) to research police procedures and FBI profilers for my next story. The bulk of my law-enforcement knoledge comes from Cops and Law and Order, and my knowledge of the FBI comes mainly from Profiler and The X-Files. As these are all fiction, with the exception of Cops, I think I need some «How to Write a Believable . . .» books. My first story was widely misunderstood—again—and the workshop of it was vastly dissapointing. Most of the comments I got from the class were along the lines of «whine whine, your paragraphs are too long, whine whine, your sentences are too long, whine whine, you use too many big words and I’m to lazy to look for meaning in the context.» At least this time almost everyone knew he was a vampire. I think they’re going to be annoyed with me if I write another vampire story, but that’s all I can think of right now. Blame it on a summer of Anita Blake. Hell, blame the psychotically ornate writing style on Anita Blake and the lack thereof. I don’t feel like revising that first story, but I’ll have to, since I got the ever-dreaded «A-/B+». What the fuck IS that anyway!? Me and Cynthia are going to make t-shirts that say «fear the minus» and wear them to the last day of class. I’ll post both stories here before I go to revise them.
Well, that’s the latest update in the insanely busy, yet pointlessly unfulfilling life of Me. Stay tuned for possible entries about the horrific hole of boring that is my job, how much I hate christmas, and the posting of the terribly belated pics from the renfest.
