Article: Aphid Control on Roses
For aphid control on roses, here is what we use:
- 1 quart water
- 1 Tbsp. dish detergent
- 1 tsp. cooking oil (makes the solution stick to the roses)
- 1 cup distilled vinegar
Put it all in a spray bottle, mix it up (foaminess is good), spray every day ’til the aphids kick the bucket!
Also, I use the high-powered spray from the hose to knock them off if the roses are still in bud stage.
Or, as a last resort, I put on my garden gloves, crush the little buggers with my fingers (yuk!), then top the roses off with the homemade spray.
Tip: Household Aphid Pest Control
- Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk: Mix Carnation Milk Mix with water according to instructions on the box. Fill a trigger spray bottle with the solution. The aphids get stuck in the milky residue as it dries on the plants
Real Lemon: Mix 4 tsp. Real Lemon Juice and two cups water in a trigger spray bottle. Spray the mixture on plant leaves being attacked by aphids. The lemonoids in the lemon oil kill the aphids.
Tang: Mix 4 tsp. Tang drink mix and two cups of water in a 16 oz. trigger spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the plant leaves being attacked by aphids. The lemonoids in the mix kill the aphids.

Tip: Homemade Aphid Repellant
Try this recipe for getting rid of aphids:
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1 tablespoon of Ivory dish soap
- 2 cups of water
Combine these ingredients into a blender or food processor on high. Strain the pulp from the liquid using cheesecloth, a nylon stocking or a fine-meshed colander. Pour the remaining liquid into a spray bottle and spray it directly on flowers or plants to control aphids. Another easy method is to use a strong spray from a garden hose every few days until the aphids are no longer visible.
Tip: Citric Acid Solution for Aphids
I spray infected plants with citric acid solution (1 teaspoon of citric acid dissolved in 0.5 L of water). I sometimes spray this solution on all plants as a protective method even if they’re not affected, and repeat as needed, it works.

Question: Homemade Aphid Spray with Vinegar
I have seen posts that suggest using vinegar to get rid of aphids. Isn’t vinegar harmful to growing things?
Vinegar is a great HERBICIDE (weed killer). For aphids, I suggest a squirt of liquid dish soap in a pint or so of water, spray the leaves, contacting as many aphids as possible.
Question: Dish Soap for Aphids
I am looking for a recipe for killing aphids with dish soap and water.
By Mary from Butler, PA
get a large spray bottle big enough to hold the followig ingredients:
1 cup vegetable oil or white mineral oil
2 cups water
2 teaspoons bleach free dish soap
Add all ingredients to spray bottle and shake well before each use because the oil separates from the soap mixture once it sits for a bit. When spraying your plants, bushes etc. be sure you spray under the leaves and on any new growth as that is where the aphids love to hide and eat. This works excellent for us and I hope it will do the same for you. Be sure not to add more soap than required as it can kill your plants.

Question: Using Hand Soap for Getting Rid of Aphids
Will liquid a hand soap dissolved in water kill aphids?
I used dish soap and water on my garden all last summer with great success. The inexpensive store brand worked the best. Start with a few drops per 32 oz spray bottle, every other day for a few days. Then keep increasing the soap ratio as the plants get used to it. The bugs and slugs hate it but the bees seem to still work around it. Make sure you get the soil too because that’s where they lay their eggs. Dish soap acts like a fertilizer for the soil too. I sprayed before dark and it worked great. Good luck!
Question: Using Dish Soap Spray for Aphids
Do I rinse the spray off? After how long? I sprayed with the dish soap mix.
Thanks everyone! I’m eternally grateful for your tips and experience.
You are only using a tablespoon of dish soap to a gallon of water, correct? There is no need to rinse off.
You should leave it on but do not spray during the hottest part of the day.
Early morning and a couple of hours before sundown is usually considered the best time to spray.
Question: Aphid Repellant for Use on Indoor Tomato Plants
I’m looking for a non-toxic aphid repellant for use on indoor grown tomato plants.
I use an organic insecticidal soap. It is food grade and I can spray and eat the same day. It should be fine for your houseplants
I am a fan of using just a few drops of regular blue dawn dish soap in a spray bottle with water and washing them away if you get them.
Prevention is the key though!!
When I used to do outside food gardens, I would plant garlic around the tomato plants and never had aphid problems. I am thinking that would work for inside too. I have never tried it, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work.
Garlic is a natural aphid repellent. They hate it 🙂
Post back what you decide.

It’s true. When sprayed on aphids, a solution consisting of liquid dish soap and water will kill aphids and many other soft-bodied insects such as caterpillars, thrips, mealybugs, spidermites, leafhopper, lace bugs, and whiteflys. Most of these soaps are made from the potassium salts of fatty acids. When sprayed on soft-bodied insects, these fatty acids disrupt the structure and permeability of the insects’ cells, causing the contents to leak out, which quickly kills them. Most any type of liquid dish soap will work, but DAWN is biodegradable and contains no phosphates, which is better for the environment.
Insecticidal soaps only work on contact and not as a preventative measure. In other words, the soap needs to completely cover the body of the pest you’re trying to control. Dried soap residue on the plants will not harm the insects. The disadvantage to using insecticidal soaps is that it causes phytotoxicity (damage from chemicals) in some plants. Here are some tips for using insecticidal soaps effectively:
Apply insecticidal soaps in conditions that favor slow drying, such as early morning or early evening. Avoid applying during the warmest parts of the day and in temperatures over 90ºF.
Spot test plants 48 hours before full application to test chemical sensitivity. Signs of chemical damage include yellow or brown spotting on the leaves, burned tips or leaf scorch. Plants with waxy leaves are less likely to suffer damage than those with dull or hairy leaves.
Plants exhibiting chemical damage within a few hours after treatment should be rinsed thoroughly with water.
Always wait for new growth to harden off before treating.
Never spray fruit trees while in bloom.
Do not apply insecticidal soaps to young transplants or to plants under stress from heat or water.
Trees and herbaceous plants with known sensitivities to insecticidal soaps include horse chestnut, mountain ash, Japanese maple, sweet gum, jade plant, lantana, gardenia, bleeding heart, crops of thorns, and certain cultivars of azalea, poinsettia, begonia, impatiens, fuchsia, geranium, ferns, Easter lilies, palms and some succulents.

20 Clever Uses For Ammonia You’ll Wish You Knew Sooner
Ammonia often plays second fiddle to bleach, but it’s one of the most powerful cleaning products in your arsenal. Here are 20 smart ways to use ammonia all around the house.
Use ammonia to clean your electric oven
Here’s a practically effortless way to clean an electric oven: First, turn the oven on, let it warm to 150° F (65°C), and then turn it off. Place a small oven-safe bowl containing ½-cup ammonia on the top shelf and a large pan of boiling water on the bottom shelf. Close the oven door, and let it sit overnight. The next morning, remove the dish and pan, and let the oven air out a while. Then, wipe it clean using the ammonia and a few drops of dishwashing liquid diluted in a quart of warm water. Even old baked-on grease should wipe right off!
WARNING: Do not use this cleaning method with a gas oven unless the pilot lights are out and the main gas lines are shut off.
Always take caution using ammonia! Never mix ammonia with bleach or any product containing chlorine. The combination produces toxic fumes that can be deadly. Work in a well-ventilated space and avoid inhailing the vapours. Wear rubber gloves and avoid getting ammonia on your skin or in your eyes. Always store ammonia out of the reach of children.
Here’s another great oven-cleaning hack worth checking out!
Use ammonia to remove soap and grease scum
To get rid of those unsightly soap soap and grease scum buildups in your porcelain enamel tub and sink, scrub them with a solution of one tablespoon ammonia in one gallon (3.7 litres) hot water. Rinse thoroughly when done. (By this way, this is how often you should clean your bathtub.)
Essential Oils for the Pest Control of Aphids
Essential oil from lavender may keep aphids away
Aphids are small insects that attach to the leaves and stems of plants, and suck the sap from them. They often leave small holes in the leaves of lettuce plants and can multiply quickly. A natural and aromatic product extracted from plants, known as essential oil, may be helpful in keeping aphids at bay.
Because essential oils are natural, they have little effect, if any, on the environment. The oil end-product comes from the leaves, roots or fruits of plants and are known to have medicinal qualities. For the safest use in the garden, choose high-quality oils that are free of additives and safe for oral use.
Most essential oils are gentle enough that they won’t kill aphids or other pests, they’ll just simply keep them away. Also, using essential oils in homemade sprays won’t have a negative effect on the atmosphere or other surrounding elements in the garden such as soil or other plants. Just be sure to keep the oils as close to the intended area as possible and spray when the garden is out of direct sunlight.
Lavender Essential Oil
The most effective type of essential oil at keeping aphids away is lavender oil. Lavender oil comes from an herb known as Lavandula and it’s the aroma of the herb that keeps the aphids away. Lavender grows best in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zone 5. Simply place 5 to 10 drops of lavender oil into a spray bottle and fill with water. Shake well and spray the problem areas once or twice a day until the problem subsides.
Bringing beneficial insects into the garden may also help keep aphids away. Try placing ladybugs into the problem areas. If you have time, simply wiping the aphids off the leaves they are infesting may also minimize the problem. Adding a little castile soap to the essential oil may also help the oil be more effective if they’re not working well enough alone. Consider planting garlic (Allium sativum) and lavender next to your plants that tend to get aphids to prevent an outbreak, as the aphids are not attracted to the smell of garlic and lavender. Garlic grows best in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3 to 8.

Ammonia from ants
Many of us are familiar with liquid ammonia from a medical point of view. But not everyone realizes that this drug can also be used in the garden. Recently, this application has become very popular, because its effectiveness is confirmed in practice. Many gardeners are beginning to wonder how to use this drug correctly, so as not to harm the plants, but, on the contrary, have a beneficial effect on them.
The benefits of the application
Ammonia, the application in the garden which has proven its effectiveness, is useful mainly due to the content of nitrogen compounds. This element is so necessary for plants. Proper dressing prepared on its basis can return cultures to life, help to get rid of the pale color of leaves.
Some will argue that there is a lot of nitrogen in free form in the air. However, plants are able to absorb only its chemical compounds from the soil. In addition, ammonia has a sharp odor that can scare away some pests.
Mode of application
Ammonia, the use in the garden which has already many ways, it is best to use in the form of a solution. To do this, dissolve no more than three tablespoons of the drug in a bucket of water. Watering plants with this tool is recommended with the utmost care, right at the root. In no case should not be allowed to fall on the ground part of the plant. This mixture has just excellent digestibility.
The main pest with which they are trying to cope with ammonia is a carrot fly. It can cause significant damage to the plant, and to overcome the insect is not so simple. However, there is a very effective and proven way. Five milliliters of the substance is dissolved in ten liters of water and the resulting mixture is treated with beds. Carrot fly does not make such an impact and leaves the site.
Eats ammonia and in the fight against other pests. For example, to overcome Medvedka, take ten milliliters of ammonia and ten liters of water. The resulting solution when planting watered plants at the root. Until the end of the season Medvedka will not touch your site.
Processing plants from pests with ammonia is the most effective and inexpensive means that does not require special material investments and the presence of vast experience for the preparation of drugs.
Fight against ants
Ammonia from the ants has proven itself not only in the garden, but also at home. If you are annoyed by these small pests, then just pour the solution of the drug in a spray bottle and spray the accumulation of ants. In the house it is enough to wash the floor with a solution of ammonia. In this case, the smell will soon disappear and will not give you any special inconvenience, but the insects will leave the room.
Ammonia from aphids is an affordable and effective remedy. In order to defeat the pest, you need to dissolve fifty ml of ammonia in ten liters of water. Add grated soap to this solution and treat the plants with the resulting solution. The effect turns out just stunning, aphid leaves your garden instantly.
Action of ammonia on furmycidides
In the process of dealing with ants, ammonia is often used, as it is deadly to affect them. When encountering ammonia, insects get:
- scare — ammonia vapors scare away insects, despite the fact that the drug evaporates quickly, its insects feel a long period of time,
- swelling and paralysis of the digestive tract,
- severe burns
- severe paralysis of the whole body.
Ammonia from ants
Instructions for use of ammonia
In the case of using alcohol against aphids or ants, the following steps should be done:
- inspect the bushes and cut off the diseased leaves and shoots, burning them subsequently,
- to prepare a solution: dissolve 1 soap and 100 ml of ammonia in 10 liters of water, it is necessary to get a homogeneous mass,
- spray each bush with a mixture
- repeat the procedure once a month,
- exclude irrigation of treated plants for several days.
Important! The process of removing aphids from plants is recommended to be carried out in the evening of the day (for the safety of beneficial insects), for 14 working days with a 2-day break.
Death by sugar
To understand how to get rid of ants ammonia, you should get acquainted with the following recipe:
- take 10 liters of heated but not hot water,
- dissolve in a liquid spoon of ammonia and sugar in the ratio of 3 to 5,
- irrigate all infected bushes.
Death by ash
To prepare the mixture you need:
- in 10 liters of water should be diluted 2 tablespoons of wood ash,
- leave for a day for infusion,
- add to the resulting solution a spoonful of soap and 2 — ammonia,
- mix thoroughly and water well the beds where the aphid lives.
To prepare the mixture you need:
- dilute 50 ml of alcohol to 4 liters of water,
- add to the solution of shabby baby soap,
- a mixture of water and flowering plants.
Application in the garden
Besides the fact that ammonia or ammonia is useful for plants when the dosage is observed, it is quite popular in the fight against insects.
In order to use ammonia from ants, you must:
- take a gauze bandage to protect the respiratory tract from the mixture, since ammonia vapors are not only unpleasant smell, but also harmful to humans,
- wear gloves to protect your hands,
- to prepare a solution by mixing ammonia and tar soap, dissolving the mixture in water in a 1: 1: 1 ratio, the proposed mixture will be sticky and will increase the chances of fighting the “six-lip” neighbors,
- sprinkle the mixture on the trunk of tall (for example, viburnum tree) and medium-grown plants,
- watering the beds in the open air and in the greenhouse — the mixture will be useful for the plants, but it will make the ants and the aphids leave or die on the spot if drops of the drug fall on their bodies.
The above solution can be fought not only with single individuals, but also an anthill. To do this, just dig the anthill and pour the mixture inside. Since ammonia acts deadly on ants, the garden will soon be cleared of this pest.
In order to destroy an anthill with a high probability, it is necessary to pour the solution with a hose into a hole, 1 meter deep, for 30 minutes.
If there is a desire to simply eliminate the anthill without killing the inhabitants, it is enough to do the following steps:
- sprinkle it with millet groats and leave it in direct sunlight so that the «hard workers» take the rump to their home,
- after the house of ants close from the sun and wait for a few days,
- after the time has elapsed, pour over the anthill, giving the opportunity for the fungus, which insects do not like, to appear on the rump.
Important! Ammonia should be used before the formation of a large number of aphids, in case of late, it is desirable to use stronger drugs.
To use ammonia against aphids and ants, you must act according to the specified algorithm:
- dissolve 1 tablespoon of ammonia in 8 liters of boiled water,
- leave the solution infused for half an hour,
- Pour into a spray bottle and spray infected domestic plants.
Also it is necessary to wipe all surfaces with the mixture and wait about half an hour for the ants to leave.
In order not to use ammonia from ants and reduce the risk of their entering the house, it is advisable:
- pack well and clean food
- keep the house clean
- Store sweets in closed packages, for example, sugar, candy,
- close the trash can or in a timely manner to remove food residues from the house.
To reduce the risk of ant on the garden plot, it is advisable to spray the plants once a week with a mixture of ammonia and water, where 15 ml of alcohol per 10 liters of liquid.
Summing up, it is worth noting that not only the causes of the appearance of ants at home and in the garden were considered, but also recipes that used ammonia from ants and aphids, which adversely affect the favorable living conditions of any cottage and apartment.
Top dressing of cucumbers
Ammonia, the use of which in the garden is known not only for pest control, can serve as an excellent fertilizer for cucumbers. It is this plant that needs a lot of nitrogen. To do this, ten ten liters of water are taken three tablespoons of ammonia. The resulting solution is poured cucumbers immediately after the start of growth of shoots.
The frequency of such feeding is approximately once every seven days. After the fruits begin to form, fertilizing can be carried out more often, for example, once every four days.
The beneficial effects of ammonia on many plants are known. So, ammonia, the use of which in the garden no longer causes any disputes among summer residents, is also useful for cabbage. It not only fills it with essential microelements, but also effectively fights pests. For example, this drug is the malicious enemy of slugs, snails, fleas, caterpillars and the cabbage fly.
In order to process the cabbage, you need to take ten liters of water and 80-100 milliliters of ammonia. The resulting solution should be sprayed plants every few days. But if the slugs are already wound up, then the solution can be watered directly from the watering can to the head. Pests should leave your garden bed soon.
Advantages and disadvantages of using ammonia
Ammonia has become a truly universal garden fertilizer, and the benefits of its use are beyond doubt. Unlike other nitrogenous fertilizers, it is completely harmless to both humans and pets. At the same time, ammonia is suddenly both a fertilizer and a means of pest control.
However, this drug has negative sides. For example, with a glut they may have problems with plant growth. In this regard, it is not recommended to conduct dressing more often than once a week. If ammonia is used for treatment, then solutions of low concentration should be prepared, and gradually increase it over time. Otherwise, instead of the expected miracle, you can get the opposite effect, and your garden crop will not give you the joy that you have expected from it.
What harm do ants in the country
Rapidly multiplying, insect colonies literally occupy the entire territory accessible to them. At the same time, their nests are well hidden from human eyes, which makes it difficult to fight ants.
Ants are not indifferent to sweets, so the summer stocks of products and the harvest of sweet berries are at risk. To obtain «building materials» ants gnaw holes in wooden structures, after which they require replacement or repair.
Harm from ants in the house
Having met in the kitchen of one small ant, it is difficult to understand why they were given the majestic name «Pharaoh ants». Stock up on ammonia from the ants, because in the house after a lone scout ant you can soon find whole ant paths.
These uninvited guests settle under baseboards and other hard-to-reach places. The working ants are very small, 2-2.5 mm. Due to their multiplicity, they are able to flood the entire house. The harm from such a neighborhood is obvious:
- Domestic ants carry the infection. Their paths pass through garbage cans and kitchen cabinets, while the bacteria are transferred to food. Due to the bites of ants, domestic animals and humans can become infected with infectious diseases, suffer from allergic reactions.
- Spoil the products. If ants get to stocks of sugar, candy or sweet cookies, food will have to be thrown away. It will be unpleasant to find ants in honey or jam, to which they are not indifferent.
- Puzzled by pets. Ants transfer their eggs to favorable places for their maturation. They can put them in a pet’s fur or a poultry cage, bother and bite your pets, which is bad for their behavior.
An effective method of protection in this case will be ammonia from ants in the apartment. For 1 liter of boiled water you need a bottle of ammonia 100 ml. This solution wipe all surfaces, baseboards, tiles, process the internal surfaces of drawers and cabinets, bins and ventilation.
After airing the room for a person, the smell of ammonia will disappear, but the method works against ants because their smell is thousands of times stronger.
Harm to plants
Numerous and ubiquitous insects penetrate into the most remote corners of the garden, there are practically no obstacles for them. They suffer from plants, productivity decreases:
- Digging under the ground, the ants damage the roots of plants: young saplings and seedlings are particularly affected.
- Ants are omnivores, young leaves of seedlings and adult plants suffer from their jaws.
- Ants spoil the harvest. The sugary fruits of plums, apricots, and other fruit trees damaged by ants become unsuitable for food and storage.
- The tunnels, gnawed by ants in the trunks of garden trees, make the wood rotten, more accessible to other pests that damage trees.
On the other hand, if aphid appeared in the garden, ants would soon appear. The use of ammonia in the garden and in the garden will help to simultaneously get rid of aphids and ants.
How to get rid of ants in the country: the use of ammonia
An aqueous solution of ammonia is indispensable in the country: the use of this tool allows you to destroy pests with minimal risk to plants and humans.
Ammonia from insects in the country will help with bites. The reddened, itchy areas of insect bites are smeared with ammonia, diluted with 1: 3 water.
Watering the nest
In order to get rid of ants from the site, you have to get rid of the anthill. Sometimes an anthill is excavated and transferred to another place, for example, to a forest, but this is not an easy procedure, and it is also highly likely that ants will return.
It is easier to force the ants themselves to leave the anthill, for which it is necessary to water ant heaps and places where there are many tunnels with ammonia. For this prepare a solution:
- water — 5 liters,
- ammonia — 2 tablespoons.
Another way: a fabric that well absorbs the liquid, impregnated with ammonia and put on an anthill. From above cover with dense fabric or polyethylene that ammonia did not volatilize. Insect scare away the unbearable smell of ammonia.
The ammonia plant from ant plants is used in solution forspraying and watering:
- Water — 10 l,
- Ammonia — 10 ml.
With this solution they water the plants under the root. This solution is also a nitrogen fertilizer. For spraying of plants, 3-4 tablespoons of sugar are added to this composition, stirred until complete dissolution and spray the affected plants.
Destroying aphids, you can quickly get rid of ants. To destroy aphids mixed such components:
- ammonia — 50 ml,
- water — 10 l,
- liquid soap — 10-15 ml.
This composition is abundantly sprayed with affected plants.
How to prevent the emergence of ants in the country, practical tips
In order for ants not to start in a country house, it is necessary to follow simple rules of hygiene:
- Store sugar, sugary foods and drinks in containers inaccessible to ants: tightly closed jars, bags, bottles.
- Store meat products in the refrigerator, do not leave them on the table and in places where ants can penetrate.
- Immediately after eating, wash dishes, cutlery, wipe the table, not leaving crumbs and food residue on it.
- Keep the trash bin outside the country house, regularly throw garbage.
For the prevention of the appearance of ants in the country use smells that scare away insects:
- The ammonia from the ants in the garden will help as a means of «two in one»: the prevention of insect invasion and plant nutrition. To do this, every 2 weeks in water for irrigation add 1 tablespoon of ammonia to a bucket of water.
- Tobacco dust. On the paths of ants found at the site, scatter this tool. The smell of tobacco ants can not stand.
- Citrus. Fresh peel and the smell of citrus scares not only aphids, but also ants.
- Garlic. When thinning and removing arrows of garlic, they can be decomposed on the site for the prevention of an invasion of ants.
- Wormwood, tansy, mint. Plant these herbs on the plot, and spread their cut flowers under bushes, trees. Their natural smell will scare away not only ants, but also mice.
Every gardener wants to protect his house and garden from all evils. Calcium in the garden and garden house will help to cope with this task.
Use of ammonia in the country
You can fight pests on the summer cottage and garden plots using all sorts of popular methods, one of which is ammonia.
Он может значительно улучшить жизнь садоводов-любителей, ведь помимо отравляющих влияний на вшей растительных, он благотворно воздействует на растения в виде удобрения.
If necessary, process the resulting solution can get rid of aphids on houseplants, it will not bring harm to them.
Ammonia as a source of nitrogen for plants
Suffice it to recall that ammonia is a compound of nitrogen, this indicates that it is a remarkable source of nitrogen. Everyone knows that when there is a shortage of nitrogen in plants, the leaves turn yellow and wither; with its lack, chlorophyll does not form.
Top dressing is prepared in this way: in 10 l. Water bred 3 tbsp. l alcohol and produce watering under the spine.
The ammonia solution is perfectly assimilated without exception (the question is only in quantity). Most of all require the introduction of such dressing onions, cucumbers, various types of flowers and much more.

Plant lice causes enormous damage to plants. At the very beginning of the spring season, she appears in gardens and garden plots. All berry and fruit bushes, and also flowers suffer from invasion of an aphid.
Having found shelter on the leaves, it sucks the juice from the plants, the leaves and branches become sluggish, twisted, can peel off. Not only leaves, but also fruits are affected by the pest invasion. Young seedlings often suffer from parasites.
Features of the fight against aphids
Choosing a particular method of struggle, we should not forget that a one-time treatment will not bring the desired effect. The fact is that a one-time spraying will not completely destroy all representatives, those who remain will quickly restore the population, and the work done will be reduced to zero.
After the initial treatment, after a few days, it should be repeated. If necessary, process it several more times, in which case the pests will be completely destroyed.
Stories of our readers!
“They always used fertilizers and dressings in their garden. A neighbor said he was soaking seeds using new fertilizer. The seedling grows strong and strong.
Ordered, followed the instructions. Wonderful results! This we did not expect! We have collected a wonderful harvest this year, now we will always use only this tool. I recommend to try. «
Ammonia from aphid
Treating vegetation from garden lice with ammonia is one of the most effective ways.
Dissolving in 10 l. water 2 spoons of the drug, adding 40 gr. before spraying. Any soap must be treated not only damaged plants, but also in the form of prevention, the rest of the vegetation. For greater efficiency, the treatment should be repeated several times.
It is necessary to make processing of various trees with the standard prepared structure. Work is done in the evening when the aphids fall asleep.
In addition to spraying with ammonia, preparatory work should be done on trees in the spring:
- Collect fallen leaves and burn them. Everyone knows that in last year’s foliage a great number of pests overwinter.
- Remove damaged and dry branches.
- Space with lime mortar trunks of trees.
- Carefully treat all parts of the trees with ammonia solution.
The garden, where a huge number of fruit trees grow, must be treated with aphids from the very beginning of the spring period. As a rule, during this period the insects migrate to the trees and begin their parasitic activity.
Fruit shrubs can be treated using pesticides, but one should not forget that they, besides aphids, will destroy beneficial insects. For this reason, it is necessary to process the garden completely and with a small interval of several days. The procedure is repeated at least 3 times.
For the fight against ants are used as folk remedies, and chemicals.
How does ammonia on pests?
Ammonia, due to its irritating effect, affects pests locally, affects the respiratory system and the gastrointestinal tract. In these cases, the dosage safe for humans causes respiratory paralysis in pests. Getting into the gastric system leads to swelling and burns of the mucous membranes, convulsions and, as a result, death.
The preparation without fear can be used both in the period of flowering, and waiting for the fruit, it will not cause harm.
Instructions for use of ammonia from aphids
Do not be afraid to handle trees and plants with ammonia. The smell of ammonia will evaporate very quickly, and a certain part of the drug, which penetrates into the plant, will play the role of additional protection, fertilizer and will be processed quite quickly.
In all popular recipes for the use of ammonia, it includes the addition of soap, shampoo, dishwashing detergent (for more sticking to the branches and leaves).
For the manufacture of the working solution is taken a bucket of water, add 2 tbsp. l ammonia, the same amount of soap or shampoo. Thanks to the soap solution, the aphid protection will last much longer.
Before processing from the invasion of aphids, it is necessary to carefully examine the damaged plants and trees. Trim the affected areas, the leaves and burn them. After this work, spray.
There are two most effective ways:
- On a bucket of water, take 60 ml of alcohol, grate ¼ a piece of any soap and mix thoroughly. Fill the spray solution with the resulting solution and process it completely.
- Take an incomplete bucket of water, add 2 tbsp. l alcohol and a spoonful of laundry powder. Move and spray plants and trees.
The effectiveness of the ammonia
When processing, a huge plus is the fact that it can be used at any period of development, which is not the case with pesticides.
The effect of ammonia does not differ from powerful factory preparations; however, the former will not harm the plant itself and its fruits. Using this drug, any gardener knows that, in addition to the destruction of pests, ammonia will compensate for the lack of nitrogen.
It should be remembered that one-time treatment will not bring the desired effect, it should be repeated several times.
When applying ammonia to the treatment, it is necessary, as in all cases, to comply with safety regulations. Of course, a weak solution can not cause negative consequences in humans. And if powerful, undiluted vapors are inhaled, this may cause mucosal burns and poisoning.
Therefore, you should always wear a protective mask (respirator), gloves and, if possible, glasses.
All gardeners are looking forward to spring to take up work on their plots. Such a nuisance, like a plant louse, can significantly darken the mood of the summer resident. Ammonia is the first assistant in their difficult task.
In addition to these recipes, there are other popular methods: this is an infusion of potato and tomato tops, and the use of green soap, and purchased chemicals.
But ammonia can not only help in getting rid of aphids, but also fertilizes the soil. The big plus is that the drug is inexpensive and one bottle is enough for several seasons.
How to apply ammonia against ants
The unpleasant smell of ammonia solution, ammonia acts detrimental to the ants. Ammonia, not able to accumulate in the soil and fruits. It can be used throughout the growing season: from the emergence of seedlings to the maturation of crops, harvest and the completion of work on the site. Ammonia solution helps to destroy not only ants, but also aphids, which is their food.
Ammonia can be purchased at the pharmacy as ammonia solution 10%
When there is an aphid on the plot, ants should be expected.
Ammonia can destroy pests at all stages of their development: from larvae and eggs to adults.
For treatments carried out against such insects, ammonia is used as a solution.
Areas of concentration of aphids sprayed with a mixture of components, its composition includes:
- 50 ml of ammonia solution,
- 10 ml of liquid soap,
- 10 liters of water.
Water to obtain a solution of ammonia should be filtered or boiled to avoid the possibility of chemical interaction between hydrogen nitride with various components in the water.
How to treat beds
Proper use of ammonia not only helps to get rid of insects, but also at the same time enrich the earth with nitrogen in it. All this will lead to an increase in crop yields. Treatment with ammonia should be carried out when there are many round holes in the ground with ants crawling around them.
When in the ground there are many holes made by ants, begin processing the ridge with ammonia
Watering the ridges carry ammonia solution. For its preparation will require:
- 10 ml of ammonia,
- 10 liters of water.
Water the plants under the root.
If to this composition add 4 spoons of sugar, which attracts the ants with a sweet taste, then this solution treats the trees, sprinkles the leaves infected with insects.
Liquid ammonia solution plants watered at the root
The destruction of ants in the greenhouse, greenhouse
Ants like to settle in greenhouses, hotbeds, because there is a lot of food, wet and warm. Basically it is black ants that destroy seedlings, plant seeds, contribute to the rapid reproduction of aphids in this closed space. If you do not take action, you can lose most of the harvest. To effectively get rid of insects and not cause harm to plants, use a more concentrated liquid, which includes:
This liquid is poured over the places where insects accumulate and the tunnels of their advancement.
As a result of a large concentration of ants, anthills arise, increasing the acidity of the soil, destroying nearby plants. In order for the ants themselves to leave the anthill, they watered the places of their greatest accumulation with liquid ammonia. To do this, use different ways:
- The anthill is poured with ammonia solution so that the liquid penetrates deeper inside. To this end, in order to get to the place of laying ant eggs, you can remove at least 5 cm of the upper layer. The working solution is prepared from 100 ml (1 vial) of ammonia, combined with 1 liter of boiling water.
- They saturate a piece of cloth with liquid cotton, put it on top of massive ant moves and cover it with a film so that the smell of liquid ammonia lasts longer.
In the fight against ants also apply the following aqueous solution. It is prepared from:
- 1 tbsp. l ammonia,
- 10 liters of water.
This mixture is well mixed and used for prophylactic purposes every 14 days, producing watering plants.
We had to personally encounter the appearance of a huge number of ants at the dacha. Getting rid of them was problematic. Part of the crop because of these insects died. Then about liquid ammonia for the destruction of ants was not known. Given the safety of this drug for plants and the detrimental effect on insects, its use is a very good solution.
To increase the efficiency of treatments carried out with ammonia from ants, they should be carried out in dry weather.
I bought liquid ammonia technical (ammonia water technical 10%). In 1 liter of water, dissolved 100 ml of ammonia, poured the accumulation of ants. Day after 4 arrived at the cottage. Hooray! Not a single ant in the sandbox or in the beds. So gardeners — gardeners recommend paying attention to this inexpensive multi-functional tool.
The action of ammonia is eradicating. That is, two minutes after pouring a decent anthill of 500–600–700 ml of a 1.5% ammonia solution into the middle of a decent anthill, the movement in the anthill stops. I usually stick a shovel, and pour a dose in the slot. Soil wettability is excellent. Sometimes I cover the place with a piece of film and press it down with a stone. For reliability of suffocation. All the former anthills destroyed this year are not re-populated yet. And near the active construction is not conducted.
The ability to correctly apply ammonia helps gardeners and gardeners to effectively get rid of the invasion of ants in their area, and in addition to replenish nitrogen reserves in the soil and provide plants with good nutrition and development.
