Head lice

Contents

Head lice are also called nits, kutis, kutu bugs, headlouse or cooties.

Summary

What are head lice?

Head lice are small flat insects, about 2–3 mm long. They live on the scalp (the skin on a person’s head where the hair grows from). Head lice lay their eggs (nits) on strands of hair.

Anyone can get head lice – it doesn’t matter how clean or dirty a person’s hair is. Head lice spread by crawling from one person’s hair to another’s – usually between people who are in close contact, such as family or school classmates.

  • cannot jump, fly or swim
  • do not carry disease
  • stay on the scalp after swimming or bathing/showering.

What do head lice look like?

Insects

Head lice can be white, brown or dark grey. They are usually in the hair at the back of the neck or behind the ears.

Eggs (nits)

Female head lice lay about 7–10 eggs each night. The eggs are small and hard (like a grain of salt) and are normally pale grey in colour. Eggs are laid close to the scalp and are normally pale grey in colour. Eggs are laid close to the scalp and are firmly glued to strands of hair. After hatching, the empty egg cases are white.

Eggs hatch in 9 days, and head lice live for 40 days.

Symptoms

Checking for head lice

In school-age children check for head lice often, at least once a week. Scratching, scratch marks or a rash can be a sign that your child has head lice. But not all children complain of itchy heads.

At least once a week, check the scalp for head lice insects and eggs, especially:

  • around the hairline at the back of the neck
  • behind the ears
  • on the crown (top of the head).

You can also use the wet combing method to check for head lice – see below for how to do this.

If you find head lice or eggs, you will need to treat them.

Treatment

Chemical treatments or wet combing are the usual ways to treat head lice. Talk to your pharmacist, doctor or nurse for advice. Ordinary shampoo or soap will not kill head lice. Do not use fly spray, kerosene or animal treatments, as these may harm children.

Chemical treatments

  • Chemical treatments use a special shampoo or lotion that kills the head lice and the eggs. Follow the instructions that are supplied with the chemical treatments.
  • Always do a second treatment 7–10 days after the first. This is to kill any head lice that may have hatched after the first treatment.

Wet combing

  • Wet the hair and scalp with conditioner (this makes it easier to see the head lice).
  • Use a fine-toothed comb to check for head lice and eggs and to comb them out. It’s best to use a fine metal comb, or a special head lice comb you can get from a pharmacy.
  • Comb the full length of the hair, from the scalp to the ends. Work your way around the head so that you have combed all of the hair.
  • If you see any head lice or eggs, clean the comb by wiping it on a tissue or a paper towel, or rinse the comb before you use it again.
  • After you have combed all of the hair, rinse out the conditioner.
  • If you find lice or eggs, repeat these steps every day if you can manage it, but at least every 2 to 3 days. You can stop when you find no lice or eggs for 3 days in a row.
  • Check the hair of everyone in the house twice a week for the next 2 weeks to make sure everyone stays clear.

Prevention

Stop head lice from spreading

It’s not possible to completely prevent head lice because they’re very common. But there are things you can do to stop head lice from spreading.

  • Brush hair every day. This may help kill or injure head lice and stop them from laying eggs.
  • Don’t share brushes, combs, headbands, ribbons, hairclips, helmets or hats – anything that touches someone’s head.
  • Having short hair – or wearing hair in a ponytail if it’s long – makes it less likely you or your child will catch head lice.
  • Children should hang their clothes on their own hook at school.
  • Children should keep their clothes apart from other children’s in swimming or sport changing rooms.
  • If you do get head lice in your family, everyone that has them should be treated at the same time.
  • Let the school and any other close friends know that your child has been treated for head lice.

Health Risks of Pine Tar Soap

A.A. Constantine’s Persian Healing or Pine Tar Soap was patented on March 12, 1867, but pine tar soap had been in use much earlier. In this century, our concern with the role chemicals and toxins play in damaging the environment and our health has led us to look into the past for safer, cleaner, more natural products. Unfortunately, just because something’s been around longer doesn’t always mean it’s safer.

Pine Tar

Pine tar is made from carbonizing pine stumps and roots at very high temperatures and pressure in a closed vessel. It has been used for centuries as a sealer for wooden boats, in roof construction and as an ingredient in soaps and shampoos. Pine tar is also used to treat some skin diseases, such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. By itself, if manufactured properly, pine tar poses no health risks.

Other Ingredients

Different pine tar soaps contain different things. The main ingredient is pine tar or pine oil, and this must make up at least 20 percent of the soap for it to be authentic. A recipe for homemade pine tar soap from BellaOnline.com calls for coconut oil, olive oil, pine tar, lye and water or other liquid.

Of the two best-known commercial pine tar soaps, Packer’s Pine Tar Soap contains soap base, pine tar, pine oil, iron oxide and PEG-75. Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap contains coconut oil, palm oil, purified water, pine tar oil, (Pinus palustris) and vegetable glycerin.

None of these ingredients would seem to pose health risks, but two of them—PEG-35 and pine tar—require a closer look.

Creosote

Most pine tar and pine oil is made using a closed-kiln process that keeps it pure. If pine tar is made in an open kiln, the smoke and little fragments of unburned wood can come in contact with the tar and result in the creation of creosote, a known carcinogen.

A 2003 study by the Scientific Committee on Cosmetic Products and Non-Food Products found that «wood tar and wood tar preparations do pose a health risk when used in used in cosmetic products.»

For this reason, most commercially produced pine tar soaps say «Creosote-free» right on the label.

1,4 Dioxane

One potential toxin found in pine tar soap is 1,4 dioxane, also just called dioxane. This is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration because it’s not an ingredient itself; it’s a byproduct of other ingredients. Studies done by the Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry have shown that dioxane at high doses can cause kidney and liver damage, and has been proven to cause irritation to the nose and mouth when inhaled as vapor. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1,4-dioxane is «reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.»

Though most soaps and cosmetics contain only trace amounts of dioxane, some exceed the FDA’s recommended exposure levels.

How to Avoid Toxins

As with anything you eat, drink or apply to your body, read the labels. Dioxane is a byproduct of the following chemicals, which are used to offset the harshness of other ingredients: PEG, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, polyoxyethylene, polyethoxyethylene or polyoxynolethylene. Avoid buying pine tar soap containing these ingredients. Also, if the label doesn’t say «Creosote free,» don’t buy it. Or, contact the manufacturer and ask if the pine tar it uses is made via closed-kiln or open-kiln. Avoid soaps using open-kilned pine tar.

Nontoxic Head Lice Treatment

Nuvo Method for Head Lice

Instructions

This web site is provided by Dr. Dale Pearlman and his associates for informational purposes and any information provided on this web site does not constitute medical advice or recommendation for treatment. By visiting or using Dr. Pearlman’s site (Nuvoforheadlice.com) or other Nuvo services (“Nuvo Services” or “Services”), you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions on our legal page.

Each treatment application has three main steps.

Apply the wet lotion throughout the scalp.

Comb out as much excess lotion as possible.

Use a blow dryer to dry your child’s hair. This dries the lotion on the scalp, and coats any lice in a shrink-wrap-like layer. The dry lotion must remain on the hair and scalp for at least 8 hours. Usually parents leave it in place until the child’s usual bath or shower the next day.

The course of treatment consists of 3 applications done at one week intervals.

Materials

You may order these items from our recommended supplies page. If you order via our links to Amazon, a small portion goes to support this website. But the price you pay remains the same.

A large bath towel for draping on your child’s shoulders.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, (8 oz for short hair, 12 oz for shoulder-length or longer hair).

A new 8 oz condiment dispenser such as this one.

A regular pocket comb such as this one.

If your child has long hair, you should also get a wide-toothed detangler comb.

If you need to remove nits to comply with your school’s “no nit policy,” you will need a Licemeister comb for step 8. In our experience the metal Licemeister comb is far superior to inexpensive, plastic lice combs. Important: Removing nits is NOT necessary for cure.

How to apply the lotion– detailed instructions

Cover your child’s shoulders with a big dry bath towel to catch the lotion which will drip from the scalp.

To boost your cure rate you must cover all the lice with lotion. We advise you to apply so much lotion that it literally overflows the totally soaked scalp and drips off onto the towel.

Pour 8 oz of Cetaphil into the condiment dispenser.

Step 1. Begin with dry hair. Start at the left of the scalp. Make sure the nozzle is always touching the skin. Apply the lotion zigzag back and forth from front to back and then back to front. Apply to the entire scalp as you move forward until you reach the front of the scalp. Use 1/4 of the bottle.

While the lotion is shown in the diagrams below as yellow, actual Cetaphil Cleanser is a translucent pearly liquid which is not visible once dried on scalp.

Step 2. Now start at the back of the scalp. Again make sure the nozzle is always touching the skin. Change the direction of your zigzagging application now to “criss cross” the first pattern. Move zigzag front to back then back to front as you move from the right side to the left side of the scalp . Use again 1/4 of a bottle always touching the scalp with the bottle nozzle.

Step 3. Use your fingers to thoroughly massage the lotion throughout the scalp and hair.

Step 4. Redo steps 1, 2, and 3. Use up another 1/2 bottle of lotion. You now have used a whole bottle of the lotion.

Step 5. Does your child have long hair that reaches to the upper back? Then apply another 1/2 bottle of lotion to that large amount of hair from roots to tips and massage in thoroughly with your fingers.

Step 6. Wait 2 minutes for lotion to act.

Step 7. Comb out the lotion. You should seek to comb out as much excess Cetaphil lotion as possible. You are done when you can’t get out any more lotion. The more you get out, the quicker will be the blow drying step which comes next. You may choose to first use a “detangler comb” if the hair is long or thick. Otherwise you can just start with the plain comb. (Note: if you want to perform the diagnostic Lice ID Test, you will need to examine the combed out lotions. Full instructions are on the Lice ID Test page.)

Step 8. If you need to remove nits to comply with your school’s “no nit policy,” then use the Licemeister ® comb to carefully go through the entire scalp. It will remove many nits. If your child’s school does not have such a policy, then skip this step. It adds 70% more work and is unnecessary to cure children of head lice.

Step 9. Blow dry the hair thoroughly, so that the scalp skin, hair roots, and full length of the hair are totally dry. You may use a detangler comb and/or your fingers to make the drying process easier. Anticipate that this will takes 3 times longer than drying hair that is just wet with water.

Step 10. You may style the hair now with a sterilized comb and/or brush. Please do not apply any styling gel, mousse, hair spray, or other cosmetic products to the hair while the dried Cetaphil lotion is on the hair.

Step 11. Leave the dried lotion on the child’s head for at least 8 hours, preferably overnight.

Step 12. To remove the lotion at the end of the treatment phase, you just shampoo with your usual shampoo, cream rinses, etc.

Recommended household clean-up

The three clean up steps should be done once a week at the time of the weekly treatment.

Sterilize all the family’s combs and brushes. You can choose one of two methods. You may soak the combs and brushes in isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol for 10 minutes or you may put them in the dishwasher on the full hot cleaning cycle.

Treat all bedding at the time of each lotion application. Take all sheets, pillow cases, blankets, comforters, and bedspreads from the beds in your house and run them in the dryer for 10 minutes on high temperature. Then put the bedding back on beds. You do not have to wash it.

Patients should change to new fresh clothes after each treatment. Put dirty clothes in the laundry hamper for later laundering.

A Final Caution

To achieve cure, it is important to follow the directions carefully. We have seen the treatment fail when parents do not follow instructions. Avoid these four common mistakes:

a) Parents skimp on amount of Cetaphil Cleanser used.

You must use precisely the amount recommended in the detailed instructions or you will fail to coat all the lice with lotion. An uncoated louse will survive the treatment and may go on to reproduce. This is especially important for children with shoulder length or longer hair. You must remember to add an extra half bottle because of the long hair.

b) Parents apply the lotion incorrectly to the scalp.

Sometimes parents just squirt it on top of the hair and try to massage it in. This is NOT the way we explain in the instructions. You must achieve a uniform coverage of the entire scalp to be effective. It is critical to be touching the scalp with the nozzle the entire time you apply the lotion. The “criss cross” pattern of application assures even, complete coverage.

c) Parents do not completely dry the lotion on the scalp.

You must dry the scalp so that it is totally dry. The lotion works by drying onto the louse and plugging up its breathing holes. If you leave the scalp and hair partly wet then the lotion can be accidentally rubbed off when your child changes his shirt, lies down on his pillow, rubs his hair, or lies on the carpet or couch. By thoroughly drying the lotion in the scalp, the lotion adheres to the lice and kills them.

d) The timing between the applications is wrong.

You must use the treatment in three applications done at one-week intervals. The dried lotion kills lice and disrupts their life cycle. If you wait too long for the next application, then baby lice can grow into adults and lay eggs and continue the cycle.

Don’t know if hair dye kills lice and nits? How to carry out the procedure in order to achieve results?

Pediculosis is considered an ancient disease, in the fight against which humanity has many ways. Along with the chemist’s drugs, hair coloring is in demand. It seems to be just got rid of lice and simultaneously painted curls. In fact, not every paint can cope with parasites. The composition that can do this has contraindications for some women. Let’s try to figure out whether hair dye kills lice.

Is it possible to remove lice by staining

Often people use hair dye, as a panacea for lice and nits, and they believe that there is no need to purchase expensive drugs. It is believed that you can get rid of parasites by staining curls. This method intrigues women. At the same time make a change of image and recover from the blood-sucking.

Hair dye solves these issues. It has a characteristic odor and consists of harmful components for the blood-sucking components. Of course, not every representative of the beautiful half of humanity will decide on a dramatic change in the color of the hair. In addition, we all know that the paint significantly spoils the hair structure. However, this method is mercilessly and soon kills lice, moreover, you can choose the color as close as possible to the natural shade.

Of course, not all parasites will die after painting the curls, but most of them will die anyway. The remaining lice will seriously weaken, the nits will come off from the hair shaft and will easily come out during combing. If you use a special comb that was purchased at the pharmacy, then weakened insects and eggs can be easily removed.

Important! When combing is not done, new lice develop from nits, the weakened soon will recover and will multiply further. Fully get rid of pediculosis can only be an integrated approach.

Impact of hair dye on lice

Using hair dye refers to an alternative method of dealing with lice. Any coloring agent consists of two components:

The first substance affects solely the change in hair color. Insect dye has no effect. An oxidizing agent is a chemical that enters into active reactions. Getting on the body of the parasite, it destroys its chitinous cover.

Lice-acting components include:

  • hydrogen peroxide, which is highly aggressive. It is a strong oxidizing agent that has a detrimental effect on the surface tissues of the insect. Thereby destroying their structure. This leads to the death of the pest. If some lice manage to avoid this contact, they die from toxin poisoning. They spiracles are burned, mouth organs are damaged, with which the parasite pierces the skin. Lice die due to the inability to continue breathing and eating,
  • the paint, which consists of the active ingredient ammonia, also has a detrimental effect on lice. Its chemical properties have a hydrogen peroxide-like effect. Ammonia also affects the respiratory system, destroys chitin and oral organs.

Note, paints made on the basis of henna, Basma, have no effect on lice.

Many people are interested in the question of whether lice are inflamed on dyed hair. Yes it is possible. Of course, immediately after dyeing, the lice will not come into contact with the hair, as they will be intimidated by a sharp odor. However, after a couple of days, this situation may be. Since the weathering of a potent ammonia smell has occurred.

Besides, if some parasites survived after dyeing, and not take urgent action, then they can continue to live and multiply in the hair. It turns out that staining is not a prevention of lice.

How does the oxidizer on nits

Even powerful oxidants have a different effect on nits. They are capsules filled with egg lice. They have a strong shell that protects against the negative effects of the environment.

The coloring component can not break the heavy-duty shell. Still he can lead to the dissolution of sticky secretion, through which the eggs are attached to human hair. After its destruction, the nit falls out during the combing process, it is easily washed off under running water.

Advantages of the method

Hair dye in the fight against head lice compared with other methods has the following advantages:

  • high degree of effectiveness, 80% of lice die after the first procedure,
  • full safety for the human body, subject to compliance with all the rules of staining and contraindications,
  • low cost method. Generally, paints containing ammonia and hydrogen peroxide are inexpensive,
  • instantaneous methods. More than half of the lice die immediately after the procedure,
  • ease of use. To dye hair does not require any special knowledge and skills.

Attention! Hair dye for a short period of time is able to cope with lice, and without causing harm to human health.

Method disadvantages

In addition to the merits, the use of coloring agents, like the other method, has its drawbacks. The following unpleasant moments that occur during hair coloring are highlighted:

  • the possibility of an allergic reaction to the dye,
  • a complete discoloration to which some women are not ready. Especially those who have not previously applied coloring curls,
  • damage to the hair structure
  • the possibility of trouble with the skin of the head, for example, itching, dryness,
  • an increase in the hypersensitivity of the skin, which leads to an increase in the number of nits.

Before applying the coloring agent, you must make sure that the person does not have an allergic reaction to the components. To do this, you need to check for determining the sensitivity of the skin on the back of the hand. If after 5 minutes, there is a burning sensation, redness, rash appears, then to combat parasites, you should choose another method, for example, pediculosis shampoos, which can be purchased at any pharmacy.

How to produce staining

In order to help hair coloring in the fight against head lice, you must first select the necessary composition of the product. It is necessary to carefully read the instructions for the content in the paint of hydrogen peroxide or ammonia. The most effective to achieve the necessary goals will be blond shades.

Next, you should check the presence of hypersensitivity to the components. If there is no redness and itching, then you can proceed to staining. The procedure should be as follows:

  • do not use an expired drug,
  • it is necessary to prepare the dye mixture with exact observance of the dosages indicated in the instructions,
  • before beginning the procedure, wash your head, dry and remove dead insects with a comb,
  • further, it is necessary to distribute the hair on the strands and process each of them with the prepared paint,
  • wear a hat. If not, then you can use a plastic bag,
  • top wrapped in a towel. This is necessary to create a greenhouse effect that kills lice,
  • leave the coloring agent for half an hour,
  • then wash off the dye with detergent and warm water,
  • rinse hair with lemon solution. For this you need to dilute the juice of 1 lemon in 1.5 liters of warm water,
  • blow-dry your head,
  • comb out nits and dead lice.

Important! To paint curls should be no more than two times a month. If after the first painting it was not possible to completely get rid of pediculosis, then it is necessary to use other methods, since the paint can cause significant damage to the hair.

Contraindications

It is forbidden to use hair dye to combat head lice in the following cases:

  • children under 16 years old. Since the coloring agent is capable of causing burns to the sensitive skin,
  • during pregnancy. As the oxidant penetrates the placental barrier and causes harm to the fetus,
  • if there are scratches and sores on the head, which are often with insect bites,
  • when breastfeeding, as the toxic components of the paint corrode the damaged epithelium and penetrate into breast milk.

Using hair dye, as a means of combating head lice, should be selective in the composition of the drug and follow the instructions.

Hair dye from lice and nits — reality or myth?

A very common question among women is does hair dye kill lice and nits and will they die if they dye their hair? We will understand the situation and answer these questions in detail.

Due to its specific chemical composition, hair dye can destroy living individuals and weaken most nits. But to completely rid a person of lice, in one procedure, this method is not able to.

But will lice kill hair dye?

The use of hair dye as the main method of dealing with lice and nits is not recommended. He can speak as an auxiliary or initial stage of treatment, followed by such procedures as daily straightening and re-treatment of the scalp.

What kind of components can kill parasites?

Each hair dye includes two main substances:

  1. Dye — an ingredient that gives a certain color.
  2. Oxidizing agent — an ingredient that, by chemical action on the hair shaft, provides dyeing and long-lasting results.

Dye is absolutely safe for lice and nits substance is not able to cause them any significant harm.

An oxidizing agent is a toxic substance for parasites. Especially if hydrogen peroxide or ammonia acts as an oxidizing agent.

Living individuals

When the oxidant hits the chitinous shell of the parasite, the process of destruction begins. The protective shell of the insect falls apart, and the louse dies instantly.

Adults, on whose shell liquid did not get, die as a result of suffocation by poisonous vapors. Ammonia or hydrogen peroxide very well helps to remove lice, as they act on parasites as kerosene or vinegar solution.

Offspring lice

For nits, the oxidizer is not such a deadly poison. The offspring of lice (larva) is in a strong cocoon, which is attached to the hair with a sticky substance. Hydrogen peroxide is not able to penetrate the cocoon and destroy the larva in the bud, but it corrodes the sticky substance, the attachment of the cocoon decreases, and the nits are easily removed from the strands.

What dyes are suitable for combating head lice?

So, earlier we figured out how to get rid of lice by dyeing your hair, but did not consider what kind of paint you need to use.

All types of paints, regardless of shades and colors, containing ammonia or hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent suitable for the destruction of lice and nits.

Modern sparing, permanent paints, without the content of aggressive ingredients, are absolutely not suitable for the fight against head lice. They are absolutely useless and will not give any result.

Action algorithm

Ordinary hair dyeing doesn’t differ significantly from special dyeing in order to destroy parasites. The action algorithm is as follows:

  1. Mix the ingredients according to the instructions.
  2. Using a sponge or brush, apply the solution over the entire length of the strands.
  3. Wear a cellophane cap.
  4. Keep the hair in this form for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Wash off the remnants of the hair with shampoo.
  6. Wet strands thoroughly comb a special comb.

For effective treatment of pediculosis an integrated approach is used., which includes such actions:

  1. Treatment of the scalp and hair with a special tool (hair dye, pharmaceutical preparation or folk method).
  2. Mandatory daily combing with a special comb 5-7 days in a row.
  3. Repeated treatment of the scalp and hair (carried out 3-5 days after the first).
  4. Daily inspection of the scalp and hair for the presence of lice and nits. Upon detection of live nits, scalp treatment and combing are repeated until the insects completely disappear.

The advantages and disadvantages of this method of treatment

As described above, the method of painting hair can not be used to combat head lice as the main and only. It can be used as an auxiliary or initial stage of insect control.

  • Ease of use. The algorithm of action is no different from the usual hair dyeing.
  • Efficiency. If a person constantly dyes his hair, then you can not spend money on special means to combat head lice, but to combine business with pleasure.
  • Efficiency. After the first application, all living individuals are destroyed and up to 80% of nits.
  • Security. Following the instructions, the risks of getting side effects in the form of an allergic reaction or scalp burn are negligible.
  • Multiple hair coloring. To completely get rid of parasites, multiple hair dyeing is required (for 14 days — 3 times), and even healthy scalp will not withstand such a procedure. In this case, the side effects are sure to appear: burns or irritation of the scalp, destruction of the hair follicles, loss and breakage of the hair.
  • New outbreak of pediculosis. If you carry out the hair dyeing procedure once, all living individuals will die instantly, but there is a risk that nits will survive, which will resume the parasite population and the disease will return.

The effectiveness of this method

If we consider the method of painting hair, as the initial stage of the fight against parasitesthen it will be effective.

Most importantly, continue the treatment of pediculosis using additional methods:

  • daily combing,
  • re-treatment of the head with a pharmaceutical preparation or a folk method, no later than 3-5 days after hair dyeing.

Far from home (recreation center, sanatorium and so on) and not having the opportunity to purchase a special remedy for pediculosis, You can use hair painting, as one of the effective methods of dealing with lice and nits.

But it will make sense if in the future to continue treatment and control of parasites. Otherwise, this the procedure will only briefly relieve the unpleasant symptoms (itching and irritation of the scalp), and after a short period of time the lice will return with a new force.

Does hair dye kill lice and nits?

Using hair dye against lice is not considered the best method., because now more serious and effective means to combat parasites are invented. However, in this case, people resort to the most unexpected methods and options.

All hair dyes consist of a coloring agent and an oxidizing agent. Coloring substances do not cause any harm to lice, but the oxidizer, which often contains peroxide, has a negative effect on parasites.

If a the paint gets on the shell of the parasite, then it starts to eat away its coverthat leads to death. Same oxidizer will facilitate combingpeeling nits from the hair.

Today, there are many colors, which do not include peroxide or ammonia. This means that such paints will not help you in the fight against parasites and you should not choose them. We all know that such compositions of paints can harm the hair and try to choose the compositions without the presence of ammonia or peroxide. Nevertheless, if you decide to get rid of lice with staining, then you will have to opt for compounds with peroxide or ammonia.

There are pros and cons of this method of getting rid of lice.

The advantages include:

  • efficiency — 93% paint doesn’t get rid of lice
  • security — does not harm health
  • economy and simplicity.

And here a number of disadvantages:

  • allergic reactions,
  • negative impact on hair and skin,
  • risk of developing the disease — there is a big risk of skin irritation heads.

As for efficiency, it is important to know and understand that with the help of staining alone you cannot completely get rid of lice. To achieve the effect and complete solution of the problem, apart from staining, it is necessary to use special pharmaceutical preparations.: shampoos, lotions and scallops.

What smell do lice fear?

If we talk about the smells, which are afraid of parasites, we can distinguish the following substances:

  • essential oils,
  • vegetable oil,
  • vinegar,
  • kerosene.

Consider how each of them affects the parasites and how to properly use these substances.

Essential oils

When pediculosis is to apply such extracts:

It should be noted that it is very easy to use them. A small amount of oil is poured into the palm. and then cover the scalp, evenly distributing it. Then gradually rub oil into scalp for 5-10 minutes. Then head must be sealed tightly. For this fit plastic bag or film.

In this state, leave the compress at night. In the morning, the head is thoroughly washed with shampoo and combed with a comb. To get the desired result, This procedure should be done every 2 days.

Vegetable oil

It violates the respiratory function of parasites. From this they weaken and die in small quantities. The oil creates a film over the parasites, which is an air-tight barrier.. As a result, lice die from suffocation. Olive oil is best.

4-5 drops of any essential oil are added to it. and warm up this mixture over low heat. A warm mixture is applied to the scalp and hair roots. Carefully rubbing in, leave for 5 hours. Next, wash the hair with shampoo and comb out the dead parasites. Carry out the procedure for 18 days every other day.

Its smell will cause irreversible effects in the body lice. Vinegar vapors are harmful to the lice, but the person should be careful too. to treat him. You can not use essences. They will cause skin burns. Enough use 3% vinegar— it is lethal and toxic to parasites.

Vinegar treatment carry out this way:

  1. Massage with vinegar. on the scalp, evenly soaked it.
  2. Warm the head package or film. You can still cover the top with a towel.
  3. Keep an hour on your head.
  4. Rinse hair and comb comb.

It has a poisonous effect on adults and eats away the shells of laid eggs. Kerosene gets on the surface of the parasite and kills it, and the smell disrupts the functioning of its respiratory system.

To prepare the solution 1 tbsp. spoon of kerosene stirred with 2 tbsp. spoons of sunflower oil and 20-30 ml of shampoo. The resulting substance is applied to the skin and hair. The head is warmed for half an hour. Then thoroughly wash the hair with shampoo and comb through the strands.

Are lice afraid of the cold

Lice are able to withstand a drop in temperature to 0 degrees and even live for some time at sub-zero temperatures. Lice death occurs at -5 degrees for 20-30 minutes, more low temperature will kill them practically instantly.

But remember that lice die at low temperatures, only away from humans. They will not die if you pass in the cold without a headdress. All because warm air remains in the strandswhich will be enough for the life of the parasite. Nits same fear cold, but they more resistant to it than adults.

After cold treatment, some of them are able to maintain their vitality. Fear of cold can only be used in the fight against laundry lice . Because most of the time they are on things, but only for feeding they move to a person. To get rid of lice need Take contaminated items outside in the cold and keep them for four days. Then they all die.

Is it possible to kill nits with a hair iron

Mortal temperature for nits +60 degrees. Therefore, the hair straightener can be used to combat them. but hair may suffer from this method of disposal due to long exposure to high temperatures.

Nits can be located very close to the skin and ironing can cause burns. Just iron is completely useless in the fight with adult lice. It can only be used for the destruction of nits and only after the hair has been treated with a pediculosis agent..

Hair dryer in the fight against pediculosis

Hairdryer weakens parasites and can destroy up to 96% parasites, but only when used properly.

  1. Wash your hair as hot as possible..
  2. Put on the hair dryer diffuser.
  3. A long time blow dry at high temperaturesas close as possible to the skin.
  4. Dry 10 minutesthen take a break repeat the procedure 2 more times.
  5. Carry out combing
  6. Perform a hairdryer treatment during the week., as nits hatch from 7 to 10 days.

If you find a parasite infection, do not rush to go to the pharmacy. Perhaps everything you need is at hand. Use the head lice control correctly and you will forget about the unwanted neighborhood.

Does hair dye affect lice

The composition of hair dye includes 2 main components:

  • Coloring matter
  • Oxidizing agent

Within the framework of this question, the first component does not cause us any interest, because it has no destructive effect on lice. With the second component things are more interesting. Hydrogen peroxide is usually used as an oxidizing agent in paints. It is a chemically active substance that has a negative effect on both the lice themselves and their eggs.

In the interaction of hair dye with parasites, the latter may experience serious problems. When hit on the shell begins to corrode the chitinous cover of insects, which leads to their death. In addition, the oxidizer helps to peel off the nits from the hair (they are glued with a special substance, which secrete female lice), which greatly simplifies the procedure of combing.

For more information about the effects of hydrogen peroxide on lice, you can read in this article — http://vreditelej.ru/vshi/izbavlyaemsya-ot-vshej-pri-pomoshhi-perekisi.html.

How effective is it?

Hope for the effect of hair dye when removing bloodsuckers is not entirely reasonable. Yes, this procedure may contribute to the speedy destruction of insects, but using it as the main method of combating parasites is not correct.

Often get rid of lice for 1 procedure is extremely difficult. Usually this requires one or two more treatments of the head in a week and a half. If you repaint your hair with such consistency, you can harm not only them, but also the scalp.

To date, there are many tools that show high efficiency in the fight against pediculosis. First of all, these are special combs for combing, sprays and creams:

In addition, there are also folk methods that also have a certain effect on parasites and do not contain toxic insecticides (not all).

Does lice and nits kill hair dye

Many women know how to effectively remove lice paint. Cosmetic method allows you to refresh the appearance of the hair and at the same time get rid of lice. Any paint containing a lightening element is detrimental to parasites. If it dyed her hair, lice die. Knowing how peroxide acts on lice, it can be used in the treatment of head lice. However, if you were not going to change the color of the hair, you should not treat it as such. Perhydrol disrupts the structure of the hair, deprives the living shine and smoothness.

Chemical compound hydrogen peroxide has the ability to destroy organic cells, which is achieved due to its high oxidative activity. When a substance hits the parasite chitinous integument, the integrity of cellular structures is disturbed. Hydrogen peroxide literally burns insect tissue, as a result they die.

However, the shell of nits under the influence of paint with peroxide remains intact. But the sticky substance is destroyed, through which the eggs of the parasites are retained on the hair. After this nits can be combed.

Ammonia is no less aggressive towards living creatures. He is able to destroy even human hair. Exactly the same effect is exposed to chitin, consisting of keratin-like substance.

Ammonia fumes have a suffocating and nerve-paralytic effect on parasites. If only living individuals die from peroxide, ammonia kills nits.

To finally get rid of lice, after two weeks you need to carry out additional processing. To do this, you can reuse hair dye or pharmacy remedies against lice.

What paint to choose for the treatment of lice

In order to know whether hair dye from lice and nits will help, you should have an idea what to look for when choosing. Among the components that make up the paint that will kill the lice should be hydrogen peroxide or ammonia. If these chemicals are not listed in the instructions, it will be impossible to cure lice. The plant-based dye components will not have any effect on the parasites — lice do not die from henna and basma.

An important criterion when choosing products is quality. You can not use paint expired. This will lead to a decrease in efficiency, and in the worst case, to a burn or poisoning.

  • Garnier Color Naturals,
  • Palette,
  • Lisap LK Anti-Age Creamcolor,
  • L’Oreal Paris Casting Sunkiss,
  • Farmavita Life Color Plus Professional,
  • Syoss.

It is best to stop the choice on paints, which contain ammonia and perhydrol. The combination of these components makes the tool most effective against lice.

Staining technique

Dyeing hair with dyed paint requires strict adherence to instructions. First you need to wash and dry your head, and only then apply the composition to the hair and roots. Before this strand should be carefully combed to be able to evenly distribute the mixture.

In no case can not violate the proportions when mixing components, as well as the use of paint with a past shelf life.

In a package with paint usually there are two bottles: with an oxidizing agent and with a coloring agent. Before use, they must be thoroughly mixed in a glass or ceramic dish.

After applying the hair is closed with a package or a special cap, wrapped with a towel and wait for 45 minutes.

After the specified time, the hair should be rinsed with vinegar (2 tablespoons vinegar per liter of warm water), carefully comb and wash your hair with shampoo. During exposure, living individuals will die, and you can get rid of nits by combing.

Combing is an important stage of treatment. The only way to completely get rid of the surviving parasites.

It is not difficult to dye hair from lice, it is important to prevent repeated cases of lice after treatment. Hair care items should be given special attention. It is recommended to wash and sanitize all hairpins, combs, hair curlers and combs. Those who are not sorry, it is better to throw.

The same goes for clothes and hats. They are recommended to be placed for 7-10 days in a plastic bag. Without oxygen and without food, lice will die.

A faster way to get rid of insects is to use insecticides (shampoos, sprays):

  • Pedilin

Will lice die if you dye your hair

Louse and nit Dye dye procedure

Pediculosis is an ancient disease. Humanity has come up with a lot of ways to get rid of lice. Along with modern pharmaceutical preparations, old proven popular recipes continue to be used. Among them — hair coloring. Does hair dye kill lice and nits, such a question is often asked by girls and women.

Features of parasites

To know what methods to use to fight the enemy, you need to explore its weaknesses.

Lice are small insects with a body length of up to 4 mm. Live on the head, feed on blood. Moves with tenacious legs. They are able to overcome a distance of 35 cm per minute. They do not know how to jump, fly. Acutely react to unpleasant odors. The body is protected by a dense shell, on the surface of which the spiracles are located.

Eat every 2 hours, the process of absorption of food lasts up to 40 minutes. When released into the environment — the floor, bed, pillow, headdress, die within 3 days. Imago life expectancy is 30-40 days. On 1 head can live from 10 to 20 individuals.

Eggs lice. Oblong, oval shape, with a lid at the base. Egg length about 1 mm. Dense shell protects the larva from the effects of adverse factors. No chemical substances — kerosene, gasoline, vinegar, insecticides — can penetrate through it.

Mounted to the hair with a special adhesive substance that lice secrete when laying eggs. Under the influence of oxygen, the mucus hardens, firmly fixes the nits to the hair. They are not able to move, do not wash off with soap, do not comb out the usual comb. The photo clearly shows how lice and nits look in hair.

The larvae develop in the egg 7-10 days. They gnaw through the cover of the shell, get out. Empty nits remain on the hair. Small lice — nymphs lead the same way of life, but do not reproduce, because it takes another week to form the genitals. For 8 days the nymphs pass 3 molts, turn into a mature individual, and then proceed to breeding.

Does hair dye help lice and nits

Wonderful cosmetic method — painting, allows you to bring beauty at the same time, get rid of the pediculosis. So say many victims, recommend an effective tool to others. Is it possible to get rid of lice by dyeing your hair or is it just a myth.

How is the procedure:

  • the head is treated with a special coloring agent
  • put on a special plastic cap or bag,
  • wait 45 minutes.

The same procedure is recommended to do when breeding lice using any popular, many pharmacy tools.

The pungent smell of coloring components clogs the spiracles, the polyethylene cap blocks the oxygen, does not allow to breathe. In 45 minutes of exposure, crawling individuals die from hair dye. You can not say about nits. They have reliable protection. Lice die from paint, the larvae in the eggs continue to develop. Eggs disappear only with careful combing nits.

What paint to use

Modern cosmetology offers a huge selection of dyes. The composition of the dye for dark, blond hair includes different components. Blonds that contain strong oxidizing agents are suitable for the treatment of lice.

It should be noted that a careful agent containing no hydrogen peroxide will be ineffective and will not be able to destroy the parasites. The whole secret of removing lice with human hair dye is hydrogen peroxide.

Effective paint for lice:

  • all shades of blond, the stronger the oxidizer, the better
  • the composition must contain hydrogen peroxide,
  • The expiration date has not expired.

In this case, the price does not play an important role, but you need to worry about the condition of the hair. Stock up on recovery masks, balms, lotions. Reviews of hair dye from lice leave the girls on the forums. Share impression about efficiency.

I remember there were lice in the hair of the younger sister. Mom did not allow her to dye her hair; Sister was 12 years old. I had paint from a series of blond. Used from her pediculosis. We decided to check whether the hair dye helps lice and nits.

The result was a pretty girl with a stylish hairdo. Dead individuals, nits combed with a comb for an hour. Re-did not handle the head with anything. Week checked, chose, all that remains.

Insects begin to be destroyed within 30 minutes, so it is possible to solve the problem of lice paint.

How does hydrogen peroxide work?

In medicine, the substance is widely used to disinfect the surface of the skin, quickly recovering from weeping eczema, open wounds. Accelerates the regeneration of damaged tissues, without disrupting the processes in healthy cells. When exposed to oxygen forms a white film, prevents the penetration of infection.

Getting on the shell of the lice, he clogs up the spiracles, penetrates inside. Destroys the internal organs, leading to inevitable death. Lice begin to die from hair dye within 30 minutes.

There is evidence that hydrogen peroxide damages the shell and penetrates to the larvae. This fact is not confirmed, but it is known that peroxide destroys the adhesive substance, with the help of which the nit is attached to the hair. Parasites literally showered from the head at the slightest touch with a comb.

Derive paint lice can only blondes. If the hair is not sorry. I had such a situation when I wanted white hair with my light blond. For this you need to clarify about 3 times. For a long time did not dare.

Lice pushed for action. Dyed her hair without thinking of parasites. Scratching of the head ceased after the first time, but even on dyed hair lice still remained. 3 more colors completely killed all the parasites.

Procedure for getting rid of pediculosis

You can remove lice hair dye by following the instructions:

  • distribute the hair on the strands, carefully treat each of them,
  • put on a plastic bag or a special hat,
  • cover the towel from above
  • leave to act for 30-45 minutes,
  • wash off the paint with warm water
  • dilute 200 ml of bite in 500 ml of water, rinse hair.

Towel needed to create a high temperature on the head. In such conditions, peroxide acts faster, insects have no chance of survival. Vinegar makes combing easier, helps to separate nits from hair. Slightly dry your head with a hair dryer, begin the procedure of combing.

Advantages and disadvantages

It is possible to dye hair from lice instead of using special preparations if:

  • roots have grown, need to tint,
  • I have long wanted to lighten hair,
  • There is no possibility to use another tool.

The main advantages are simplicity, accessibility, efficiency. The disadvantage is the fact that to fix the result, you must repeat the procedure after 10 days, for clarifiers such a period is contraindicated. Re-staining is allowed at least 14 days. Otherwise, hair deteriorates badly — they lose their luster, become thinner, split.

They will die if they dye their hair, nymphs of different ages, imago. Nits will live. A few missed eggs are able to give life to a new population in just 14 days. The efficiency of a single treatment is 80%, twice — 99%, three times — 100%. The break should be between the procedures of 7 days.

Can I get rid of lice with hair dyes?

Many people believe that pediculosis is a personal hygiene problem. However, lice infestation is completely independent of how many times a day you go to the shower and how often you wash your hair.

Everyone can face the disease, regardless of age, status and other features. The desire to quickly get rid of parasites pushes women to various tricks. In particular, it is widely believed that lice hair dye helps.

Is it really, let’s try to figure it out.

Does hair dye kill lice and nits? The answer to this question is ambiguous. The dye can actually destroy the chitinous layer of the shell of parasites and burn their respiratory tract, as a result of which asphyxiation occurs. However, in relation to the larvae, the agent is powerless, the shell of the nits is so strong that even aggressive chemical agents cannot penetrate it.

But the sticky substance with which adult females attach their offspring to the hairs, the compositions corrode. This means that it will be much easier to comb the eggs, they are easily separated from the strands.

Coloring can be an effective additional measure in the fight against parasites. With its help, it is possible to get rid of both adults and larvae. The method is distinguished by its versatility. At a time, you can refresh the color and get rid of the uninvited “guests”.

In addition, women note the following benefits:

  • safety subject to compliance with all recommendations specified by the manufacturer in the annotation,
  • quick results — lice die immediately after the procedure,
  • low cost of treatment — painting helps to save on anti-pediculosis drugs,
  • short duration of therapy, the process takes several minutes,
  • simplicity — specific knowledge and skills are not needed for treating hair with paint.

Choosing a dye

Hair colors kill lice and nits only if they contain ammonia and hydrogen peroxide, or at least one of these components. These are quite aggressive chemical agents that perform the role of oxidizing agents in the compositions.

Substances step into a chemical reaction with biological membranes, they can destroy not only the hair cuticle, but also the louse’s shell. Parasites begin to die immediately after applying the paint.

As for the harmless, gentle formulations that manufacturers now offer, they will not suit us. Only permanent resistant products can come to the rescue, as they have a rather aggressive composition.

General rules

It is unlikely that it will be possible to achieve a 100% result from the use of dyes, since even the manufacturers of special products cannot guarantee the complete destruction of parasites from the first time. However, in your power to do everything in order not to harm yourself.

Properly dye your hair will help compliance with the following rules:

  • do not use natural dyes, such as henna or basma, they will not help get rid of parasites,
  • make sure the expiration dates are in order — old paints will not give the desired effect,
  • comb your hair thoroughly before treating it
  • observe the proportions indicated in the instructions,
  • before using the composition, make sure to test for personal intolerance to the components,
  • soak the dye on the head as much as indicated in the abstract,
  • after the procedure, do not walk with loose hair, so as not to lose the lice larvae,
  • use a special comb with rare teeth for combing nits, pre-spread a newspaper under the chair, which then will need to be thrown out onto the street,
  • repeat staining no more than once a week so that the curls have time to recover,
  • The course of treatment consists of three procedures, no more,
  • Combine staining with medical shampoos or other special means.

Alternative methods

Traditional and home medicine offers many alternative methods of getting rid of pediculosis. In pharmacies, you can find special shampoos, suspensions, emulsions and other drugs that have a detrimental effect on the parasites. At the same time, they are adapted to the hair and dermis of the head, therefore they do not violate the natural balance of these structures.

The recipes of our grandmothers can also be effective, they are based on natural and affordable ingredients. Most often to remove the larvae and adult parasites use tar soap and compositions based on it.

Another effective method is combing lice and nits. It is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • hair is well washed, it is applied to them a balm or conditioner,
  • the hair is combed well with a comb with large teeth,
  • then we separate the small strands and comb through each, we shift the treated hair to the other side so that the parasites cannot get over them,
  • after combing wash your hair with shampoo again,
  • comb combed hair
  • repeat treatment every three days.

It is possible to use hair dye in lice control, but only very carefully. If you are used to constantly refreshing the color of the curls, then the method is quite acceptable as an additional therapy. However, relying solely on dyes is not worth it.

Trichologists and dermatologists strongly recommend the use of special preparations developed to combat pediculosis. They contain the minimum amount of harmful substances, fight with adults and nits.

Use only effective and safe means to preserve the beauty and health of hair.

Are lice infused on dyed hair?

For a long time there is a belief: lice on dyed hair do not live. Allegedly, staining is a direct way to getting rid of lice. Is it really, and if the paint helps, what?

Pediculosis is an unpleasant disease that causes discomfort in the form of unbearable itching. Pharmaceutical sprays and shampoos are used to destroy lice, they resort to popular advice. And someone dyes his hair.

Can I become infected with parasites, if the curls are painted

Are lice transmitted to a person with colored hair?

Parasites do not care, your color is your curls or purchased with the help of cosmetics.

Lice feed on blood. Blood stasis never occurs in the scalp. Due to increased blood circulation, toxic substances from the paint will not remain the next day.

For example, you had a staining procedure yesterday, and today you talked to a lousy person. Infection will occur necessarily.

The paint damages the structure of the rod, but does not violate the properties of blood.

The only caveat: to the parasite, in the first few days after the action of the coloring pigment, it will be difficult to attach the nits to the rod. But when the structure of the hair is restored, lice will continue the strenuous activity in the head.

Many people start the disease, referring to the fact that severe itching is the result of the burning and irritating effect of paint. During the revision of the head, it turns out that the person is sick with pediculosis.

Do lice survive on painted curls?

If the infection occurs after staining, the lice will feel great, regardless of the color of the curls.

Another question is when pests are removed with a coloring pigment. In this case, the probability of complete elimination of pediculosis is high. But there will have to try.

Sometimes, it is safer for the body and hair to get an anti-pediculent remedy rather than experimenting with appearance and risking the natural beauty of the curls.

It is not always possible to get rid of the disease in one staining. It is necessary to carry out the procedure 2 — 3 times, which adversely affects the state of hair. Remove the lice, but there is also a risk of remaining with burned tows on the head.

Now every second representative of the weaker sex regularly changes hair color. But, as medical statistics show, head lice in women with an unnatural shade of curls occurs with the same frequency as natural blondes and brunettes.

It turns out: lice feel great on short and long and dyed hair.

Why then say that the components of the coloring matter have a detrimental effect on bloodsuckers?

The method works during the direct staining procedure.

But it is not always possible to get rid of lice by dyeing your hair.

The choice of coloring composition

To date, there are a number of permanent paints that do not contain hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. Can lice and nits be removed with hair dye with such a composition?

They should not be usedbecause no effect you get.

When planning to get the expected effect from dyeing — change the color, as well as get rid of lice, you should carefully pay attention to the composition of the paint.

In the instructions to the paint, in the «composition», need to find hydrogen peroxide or ammonia. It is this combination that makes lice cure from ordinary paint.

Correct paint curls

For the treatment of lice is used paint based on ammonia or hydrogen peroxide.

Step by step algorithm for painting hair from lice and nits:

  • All components of paint mix,
  • Apply this product to the hair using a special brush,
  • Wear a special hat,
  • In this form, you must be 10-20 minutes
  • After dyeing the hair should be washed using shampoo.

Advantages and disadvantages

Now you know if lice can be killed with hair dye. Applying hair dye to lice has several obvious advantages:

  • Efficiency — in 93% of cases it is possible to get rid of head lice completely,
  • Security — when used correctly, this medicine does not harm the health,
  • Efficiencyas well as ease of use.

Among the main of them can be identified appearance of allergic manifestations. However, there are others:

  • The negative effect on the hair structure and skin. This procedure perfectly helps to get rid of this ailment, but it will not work in one application. To achieve a positive result, it is necessary to apply this method 2-3 times over 4 weeks.
  • There is a risk of developing the disease.. On the one hand, the paint eliminates the appearance of lice, and on the other, the risk of skin irritation, which occurs due to the weakening of protective functions, increases.

Is it possible to bring lice by dyeing hair

The staining process is similar to the anti-pediculosis event.

  1. Applies a coloring pigment to curls,
  2. Wraps head with polyethylene,
  3. Leaves a remedy for 30 to 40 minutes,
  4. Washes away the remnants of the coloring matter
  5. Combing hair.

Treatment against lice proceeds in the same way, but instead of a cosmetic, a medical preparation is used that has a destructive effect on the individuals.

The only negative — as a result of staining only adult individuals are killed. On the nits, make up cosmetics do not work.

The destruction of blood-sucking parasites by an anti-pediculent remedy implies the death of both lice and eggs.

Even a medical drug does not guarantee 100% disposal of bloodsuckers, what to speak about ordinary cosmetics.

In the advanced stage of the disease, additional treatment of the scalp after 10 to 15 days is required to destroy the surviving nits.

Does hair dye kill nits?

What hair dye kills eggs and larvae?

Destroy possible sexually mature individuals. But the surviving nits will hatch in a few days and continue to unfold the stormy livelihoods in the head.

The basis of the cosmetic product is hydrogen peroxide or ammonia. It is these components that have a destructive effect on parasites.

Peroxide penetrates into the chitinous cover of the insect and disrupts the work of the respiratory center. The inability to breathe normally causes the death of the parasite. Ammonia works similarly.

Puncture the hard shell of the egg can neither peroxide nor ammonia. To do this, and recommend the use of specialized drugs, rather than cosmetics.

Under the action of the coloring pigment, the structure of the hair changes, the active substances penetrate deep into the rod, corroding the protective sheath.

As a result of staining, nits are easily peeled off from the curls, because the adhesive substance by which the egg is attached to the rod dissolves.

It is worth being attentive — the nits that fell from the head are alive.

After hatching, she will go in search of a future owner. The likely outcome of the procedure at home is a relapse.

In case of a cardinal decision to dye infected hair, proceed carefully:

  • Do not move around the apartment with loose hair during dyeing,
  • Comb curls over white paper with a fine comb,
  • Ask your loved ones to inspect the head for any remaining nits.

Lice can only be removed if you repaint curls with certain types of cosmetics. Hair coloring novelties, carefully related to the head of hair, the parasites will not kill.

What kind of paint is detrimental to adult parasites

Bloodsuckers may die from exposure to white paint. Blonds and clarifiers contain ammonia, which can kill adults.

The high content of peroxide in clarifiers also contributes to the death of insects.

If a woman chooses such a way of getting rid of bloodsuckers, then she will have to lighten up several times.

Cream paints that do not have a pungent smell and do not require wrapping of the head for the duration of exposure to the pigment do not work.

What to look for when choosing a paint:

  • Composition. The basis should include substances that can destroy pests — ammonia or hydrogen peroxide,
  • Shelf life. Means, with a suitable term at the end of the hair color, but the louse does not kill,
  • How many tones brightens. The bigger, the better. Potent clarifiers contain large amounts of peroxide. Please note that this paint burns and breaks the structure of the curls.

Regardless of the degree of infection of one treatment is not enough. It was mentioned above: the active substances cannot break the membrane shell of the nits. We have to wait for the eggs to hatch and repeat the procedure.

How many times to paint, so that all lice died out

There are situations when even after having done several staining procedures, the parasites live or start up again.

It happens when a woman chooses a paint wrong. Careful exposure and the absence of ammonia or peroxide in the composition — the only reason why the parasites did not die.

With a properly carried out procedure, re-staining is carried out no earlier than 2 weeks. The curl structure should be restored.

If brightened earlier, the risk is likely to remain without a luxurious head of hair. Curls become brittle and fragile, yellowness appears, which is then difficult to paint over.

Repeated anti-pediculum treatment is recommended to be carried out no later than 10 days.

During this time, the dead eggs hatch, and the poisonous substance will destroy living individuals.

Here the question arises — to burn curls or use the available pharmacy tool that has a toxic effect on the body, but does not violate the structure of the rod. The choice for the woman, but it is better not to experiment with appearance, especially during the illness pediculosis.

Is the method effective?

Henna exposure

With the help of henna, it is impossible to get rid of parasites, but a special solution helps to destroy body lice. Henna for head lice — does not work!

The product is natural and does not contain chemically hazardous compounds.

Prepare a decoction consisting of henna and tansy. Pour the prepared solution (300 ml) into the bath with warm water. Water treatments with the addition of healing broth relieve itching and relieve inflammation of the bites.

It is useless to paint curls with henna or basma.

Use natural dye after anti-pediculous treatment. Henna will restore the broken structure of the curls and return the natural shine.

Why rinse hair with vinegar

What really helps bloodsucking is vinegar. The tool does not kill bloodsuckers, but facilitates the separation of nits from the rod. The acid dissolves the adhesive and nits are easily removed.

A no less useful feature of acetic water is the improvement of the structural characteristics of the rod. Damaged scales due to rinsing with an acidic solution are closed, the rod becomes smooth, and you protect yourself from infection.

The parasite even penetrating the hair of the head will not be able to cling to the silky rod.

When you can not dye your hair

Dye is a chemical that penetrates the scalp and can cause an allergic reaction. Not always possible staining.

It is strictly forbidden to influence the coloring pigments when:

  • Intolerance to incoming components. Perform a test by applying a little paint on the elbow area. Leave for 15 minutes. At the site of application appeared itching or hyperemia? Do not use an agent
  • Severe infection with head lice. Treatment will not bring the desired result, in addition, the risk of severe irritation is likely. The scalp is injured from scratching, the penetration of caustic substances will cause pain and burning,
  • The use of chemical dyes for children and pregnant women. The harm done by chemicals to children’s health is enormous, pick up a pharmacy that is suitable for certain age categories. The same applies to pregnant women. The chemical effect of the pigment can negatively affect the developing fetus.

Lice infest all, regardless of age and status. The probability of death in parasites is high under the influence of special preparations.

Experiments on the «random» can lead to a worsening of the situation. Use the advice of physicians and remove bloodsuckers with shampoos and sprays.

Pediculosis is a disease, and any disease requires complex treatment.

Will lice die if you dye your hair

Hair dye from pediculosis Hair dye from lice and nits Hair dye from lice

With such an unpleasant phenomenon as pediculosis, people can face both in childhood and in adulthood. After all, children often bring head lice from school or kindergarten, subsequently infecting their family members.

For the fight against parasites created a variety of chemical agents, distinguishable by composition and price. There are folk remedies that can get rid of malicious insects. Even there is a belief that one of these is hair dye, which is used by many fashionable women to change their image.

Whether hair dye kills lice and nits in reality can be found in this article.

Variations of ways to fight against lice

The first thing that comes to mind when detecting lice, is to choose the most effective means. After all, not everyone agrees to shave their heads bald to get rid of lice.

Traditional recipes are not always effective, and besides, they take time to prepare. However, effective pharmaceutical preparations may not be affordable for everyone.

Some lice fighters claim that parasites will die if you dye your hair with regular hair dye.

Features of the impact of the coloring composition

Hair Dye from Pediculosis

Hair dye from lice and nits is one of the alternative non-traditional methods of dealing with head lice. The basis of any coloring mixture consists of two ingredients: an oxidizing agent and a dye. And the latter only contributes to the change of hair color, it has no effect on lice. What can not be argued about the oxidizing agent, which is a chemically active substance that can enter into various reactions. It is enough to get him on the body of a bloodsucker to begin the process of destruction of his chitinous shell.

  • Such an aggressive component is hydrogen peroxide. Due to its high oxidative properties, it has a detrimental effect on the structure of the surface tissues of pests, destroying them, from which pests are forced to die. Insects, which managed to avoid such contact, are poisoned by toxic fumes. They not only burn the tissues of the spiracles, but also damage the skin puncture tool. As a result, blood suckers very quickly die from hair dye, as they are not able to eat or breathe anymore.
  • The oxidizer reacts completely differently to nits. Print paint capsules with eggs will not succeed, due to the fact that the coloring composition is not able to destroy the shell characterized by high strength. However, it is well dissolves the sticky secret, through which the nits are kept on the human hair. Deprived of this sticky composition of the nit will be forced to fall during combing, or easily washed off with running water while washing the head.
  • No worse than die lice from the paint, which has in its composition of ammonia. The chemical activity of this component has a similar negative effect on lice. What can not be said about paints more benign composition, based on synthetic oxidants. They can not affect the parasites. Therefore, if you want to bring lice hair dye with such a composition to succeed will not succeed.

What to consider when coloring

Paint lice and nits

Hair dye is one of the available methods of combating pediculosis. In addition, a short medical procedure does not represent a particular health hazard, subject to the recommendations of the manufacturer of the coloring composition.

With the help of hair dye lice will really be destroyed, but do not forget about the possible surviving nits. After a time, young individuals will appear from them, which subsequently will begin to actively proliferate. Therefore, to completely get rid of lice, dyeing hair will not succeed.

To achieve a full result, it is necessary to conduct three, and sometimes even four procedures. Moreover, re-processing should be carried out no more than 6-7 days. It is unlikely that such an active effect on the hair and scalp would be beneficial.

Also do not forget about the risk of allergies to the coloring composition. And besides, this method of struggle is suitable only for women, it is unlikely what doctor will allow to apply paint for a child.

Therefore, it is preferable to get rid of lice more effective means.

Caution

If you want to dye your hair from lice with an agent based on oxidizing agents, you must take special care:

  1. It is very important to prevent overdose. Therefore, the period of the effect of the coloring composition on the hair should not exceed 30 minutes.
  2. At the end of the procedure, the agent is thoroughly rinsed with running water using detergent.
  3. At the end of the process, rinsing with a lemon solution (juice of 1 lemon per 1.5 l of water) is carried out, which will make the hair shine.

However, it is not enough to color the hair to destroy the lice. Combing is another important nuance, the quality of which will determine the final result of the struggle. It is preferable to remove dead individuals and loose nits using a special pediculicidal comb with often located teeth.

Reviews of hair dye for lice are very diverse. Some welcome this method and insist that the parasites began to disappear after the first coloring. Others are not enthusiastic about this method of struggle.

It was possible to fight with pediculosis during a large deficit. Now, when pharmacy counters are replete with a lot of money, in my opinion, you can choose a more effective and cost-effective anti-parasitic drug.

Coloring is not the best option to get rid of lice. The paint did not help me. Is that only the color change?

Paint lice — a simple and fast way to fight. And besides, a unique chance to change the image. Two effects in one remedy. Super! Recommend.
